Then all fireman and ambulance personnel, Al included, were put on stand-by in case they were needed. It soon became apparent that there was no-one to save. A very sobering thought. Business came to a standstill for a couple of weeks as folks were afraid to even breathe, and then the flood of folks came, city folks with their summer homes fled the city that winter and spent the winter out on the East End. I firmly believe to this day that our country has not fully recovered from that day, and may never. We were all sitting there wondering how a pilot could make such a horrible error but then shortly there after another plane hit and we knew we were under attack.

I contacted the guys who reported to me in Chicago and sent them home because they were a block away from the Sears tower. The President of the company at the time didn't send anybody home so I got in a bit of trouble but have never felt bad or regretted that decision.

Had something happened I would have had to live with it for the rest of my life.

I'll never forget 9/11, it affected family and a nation. One wonders how much the Government will remember...

Take care,
ErikErik's RV Blog https://www.blogger.com/profile/17149039572885361450noreply@blogger.com
