Yeah, I know I haven't posted in the last couple days, but I really didn't have anything to post about. I've also been "down" for some reason too and when I get like that, I don't feel creative at all!! : (
The weather has been quite warm up here, but not nearly as hot as it has been in much of the country. We've had highs in the mid to upper 80's but I don't think we've had any 90's right here. A little further South from here, (and away from Lake Superior), it's been quite hot though.
Jim and Linda went grocery shopping one day, and yesterday, they went to a place called "Gronk's. It's a bar and Grill located on this side of Superior and it seems like a pretty popular place. Both Jim and Linda said that the food was good but they were definitely under staffed because the only 2 waitresses were running like crazy and once they took the orders, it took forever for the kitchen to prepare the food.
Jim and Linda had hoped to take CLT and go on a couple of scenic drives in the area while we're here, but the storm and the flood waters of about a week ago destroyed some of the roads either on the scenic drive or the roads getting to them. : (
They're working on getting the roads repaired, but there's so many damaged in the area that it's taking awhile.
We'll be staying here at the Northland Camping and RV Park until after the 4th. Then, on the 5th, we'll be heading up into the U P of Michigan to a Campground up near the little town of Ahmeek, (which is on the Keweenaw Peninsula which sticks out into Lake Superior). The CG is called Sunset Bay Campground, and Jim and Linda were there with Myrddin a couple years ago.
From what I can tell, it's a small CG and in fact, Jim says he thinks it'll be a real challenge to get me in there. From going back and reading Myrddin's old blogs, it sounds like it it should be worth it though, as it sounds like the views of the lake from the sites are "superior". ; )
A couple of the problems though is that as of 2 years ago, there was no cell phone service and unless their wi-fi is working, there's no Internet service with-in 10 or so miles of the park either!!!
So, , , , ,, once we leave here, I may not be able to post for the next week. Hopefully their wi-fi will be working.
Well, I'd better go. I know it's going to be awhile yet before we leave here, but I'm bored, so I'm going to start getting ready.
Did you know that July 4th was not a federal legal holiday until 1941?
You might want to look at the City of Houghton RV Park. They are reasonably priced and have cable TV. The sites back up to the river and you can walk to downtown. The Ambassador Hotel has the best pizza ever and Jim and Linda could easily do day trips from there to Copper Harbor, etc.. Oh yes, they might want to check out the Gay Bar in Gay, Michigan - good lunches.
ReplyDeleteWe hope to be staying at a CG near you the middle of the week of the 9th at Ontonagon Township Park. They don't take reservations so your CG is an alternative. We will be doing a bit of copper mining at the caledonia mine but mostly we will be soaking up the beautiful views and lake. If you don't count our one night stay in Ludington State park as a "test" trip, this is the maiden voyage in our new used RV! Reading the RV blogs has really helped minimize the RV learning curve!!! Thank you for your part.
