We didn't have far to go yesterday morning, so I was kind of surprised when we left the CG in Garberville as early as we did. In fact, it was only 10:10 when we pulled out of the park, just 10 minutes after our usual departure time.
Once back on US 101 and heading North, I saw some of those huge Redwood trees that CLT had talked about. In fact, just North of the CG, there were some that were right on the edge of the road and I was glad that we didn't meet another large vehicle. 101 is quite hilly and curvy in this area, but is a 4 lane road most of the way, so it's pretty easy traveling on.
The drive was very scenic and by 11:15, we were pulling into the Riverwalk RV Park here in Fortuna. We only traveled 55 miles, but there was a reason for stopping here after just 1 hour and 5 minutes. You see, from here North, much of 101 is 2 lane, twisty-turny road and the pace is sure to be very slow. Also, the next stop is way up by Klamath and Jim just didn't want to go that far on those kind of roads in one day. ; )
This is a very nice park, (it should be for $35 per night). : ( The lady in the office was very nice and helpful, all the roads and sites are paved, the sites are full hook-up with 50 amp electric, cable TV and free wi-fi, (that works very well). There's a picnic table at each site, there's lots of grass and trees, and except for the grass needing mowing, it's very well maintained. They have a well stocked camp store, a pool and a spa.
Jim took a few photos, so I though I'd post them here. This first one is of the sign out by the road.

My site #7
You can't see him, but CLT is still hooked up behind me. The site was just long enough.
For dinner, Jim cooked some burgers on the grill. The evening was spent watching TV and getting caught up on blogs from the last 3 days.
A Point to Ponder : Courage is not the absence of fear, but the conquest of it.
