Tuesday ended up being a grocery shopping day. That is, after the rain and storms finally cleared the area. We didn't have any storms here in DeBary, but it did rain quite hard for awhile.
While it was raining, Jim and Linda were going through drawers, cabinets and other storage places inside of me to further try to decide what stuff they still need to take to the house.
This has been one of the hardest parts of moving and downsizing RVs. If they leave too much inside of me, and there's not enough storage in a smaller RV that they purchase, then what do they do with those items? On the other hand, they need to be sure that they have enough along to be able to live comfortably for the next 2 or 3 weeks, or however long it takes to find an RV.
Yesterday, they took a whole bunch of stuff over to the house and put it away. Jim also loaded up his bike and took it over there so he wouldn't have it in the back of CLT. Then, after they returned and were resting/napping, Laura called and wanted to know it they'd like to meet over a Steak N Shake around 5:30 for dinner?
Well, again, that was a "no brainer", so around 5:15 they headed over there and had a nice visit with Laura and Lindsey while enjoying a sandwich. : )
Oh, do you remember that around the 1st of February I mentioned that Denny and Bev, (part of the Illinois Bunch), were going to stop by for a few nights? Well, tomorrow they'll be arriving here at Highbanks and will be staying for 2 nights!! They'll be coming in their Winnebago Brave but as of today, there's no sites empty real near me, so I may not be able to see him. : (
I'm sure Jim and Linda will have a good time visiting with Denny and Bev though and they've already planned a Pizza dinner for tomorrow night. : )
It should be a fun time!!! : )

A Little Job and A Barcalounger For Jim

When Jim and Linda went over to the house yesterday morning, Jim took some tools along because he had a little job he wanted to do.
You see, the refrigerator doors opened from the left side of the refrigerator and that made it very unhandy to put food in and out as all the cabinets/ stove/sink are on the right side. So, , , , , he took the doors off, reversed the hinges and handles and now the doors open from the right side.
Much handier.
After that little job, he patched some more nail holes in the walls while Linda put some things away that they had brought from inside of me. After finishing those tasks, they decided to head over to the used furniture store to see if they had any lamps that they could use, both in the living room and in the bedroom.
Well, they found some very nice lamps that they purchased, but while they were looking around Linda spotted a large recliner in between a bunch of other chairs and brought it to Jim's attention. It turned out to be a very nice leather Barcalounger that was actually very comfortable for Jim. You see, Jim is 6'4" tall and most of the recliners are too short for him.The biggest problem he has with most recliners is that the footrest catches him right in the middle of his calf's and causes his lower legs and feet to "fall asleep".
They also found a very nice chest of drawers that they purchased to be used for storage and to set the TV on. (When they get a TV). ; )
Both of these large items will be delivered either Wednesday evening or sometime Thursday, after the living room is painted.
Again all of the items they purchased from the used furniture store were very reasonably priced. In fact because it is the end of the month, they are giving an additional 25% off of most items in the store.
Because they were both tired by this time, Jim and Linda stopped at the Lotus Garden Chinese Restaurant and picked up some food to bring back here to the park. Neither of them had eaten food from this restaurant before, but they both thought the food was quite good and will more than likely return in the future.
After eating, the rest of the evening was spent watching TV, napping, reading and just relaxing.

Insurance, Dinner and Buying Paint

Jim and Linda met Laura and Lindsey over at the house yesterday morning. Laura wanted to see the furniture that Jim and Linda had bought and Lindsey helped Jim measure the rooms that Linda is considering painting.
It was about noon when Jim and Linda came back here to the park. When they got back, Linda called the insurance agent to see what was happening with the insurance on the house. Well, the news wasn't good. The agent told her that he had contacted the company and they had told him that it would be at least another week before they would even look at the application!!! : (
When Linda told Jim what the agent had said, Jim said, "Enough is enough, we're going with the back-up plan". !!!!!!!
Linda told the agent what they wanted to do and he said to come on over to the office and he'd get it set up.
So, , , , after Linda grabbed a bite to eat, they headed over there and purchased a policy that gives them very good liability insurance but no insurance at all on the house or anything in it.
Now I know that to some of you this may seem crazy, but being that Jim and Linda didn't pay much at all for the house, (they could buy 4 or 5 of these houses for what it would cost to replace me), and they're planning on having almost all used furniture inside of it, the risk of losing a lot of money in case of a total loss is minimal. As far as personal "things", Jim and Linda don't have too much of that, and have no intention of collecting a lot of "stuff" in the future.
Also, because just the liability insurance is much less expensive than home insurance, they will be able to save some money to put in the bank in case they need or want to buy another house in the future.
This is not an ideal situation but it seems like one of the only options available for a manufactured home this old. (Built in 1976). I can't stress too much to anyone who is considering buying property or a home in FL. Make absolutely sure that you can get insurance on anything you buy, before you sign anything!!!!!! Insurancewise, (I don't think that's a real word), there are some crazy thing happening down here in FL and the rules are changing from day to day. It's not like buying insurance in any other state!!!!!!
For dinner, Jim and Linda met Laura and Lindsey over at the Arby's restaurant in Orange City and then went to Home Depot to pick out and buy paint and supplies for the house. Laura is very good with colors and decorating and Linda really wanted her opinion.
After purchasing (just the right color paint), Laura and Lindsey headed home and Jim and Linda came back here.
So, , , , , , Jim and Lind have made the insurance decision and they have decided that they're not going to "look back". If something happens, Jim and Linda will still be all right. They have enough resources right now that they could go out and buy another house like this one. And, they're still planning on having a medium sized RV for the foreseeable future, so they'll also have that option.
Today, Jim and Linda will be going over to the house and will start the "prep" work for the painting. Then when there's time, Laura will come over and help with the painting.

A Very Good Christmas Day

In the morning, Joe called from Virginia Beach to wish Jim and Linda a Merry Christmas. He and his family were in the middle of opening presents and had just opened the package that Jim and Linda had sent up there.
Then, Laura called and said that she, Lindsey and the girls were coming over for a little while. In about 20 minutes, they arrived and everyone sat and talked for about 1/2 an hour.
After they left, Linda called her brother, (Glenn), who lives up in River Falls, WI. and her sister, (Nancy), who lives in Plainfield, IL. Both of them seem to be doing well and were having good holidays.
After that, Jim called Jeff out in Portland OR. but got their answering machine, so he left a message. Then, he called Mike in Apex, NC and talked to him for while. He, Gina the girls and Dillon were having a great time opening presents and enjoying the day.
Later in the afternoon, Jeff returned Jim's call and they talked for about 1/2 hour. He and Heather also had a good Christmas and were having a quiet day at home, enjoying each others company.
For dinner, Linda cooked one of Jim's favorite meals of cube steak, boiled potatoes and gravy. That along with the left over rice/vegetable dish that Linda had made to take to Marv and Inez's made for a very nice meal.
The rest of the day was spent snoozing playing with the computers and watching TV.
A very good Christmas.day! ; )
Did you know that in 1947, Toys for Tots started making the holidays a little happier for children by organizing its first Christmas toy drive for needy youngsters?

Christmas Eve

I hope all of you are having a Merry Christmas today. Be sure to take a little time to remember the true meaning of the day.
Yesterday, Linda spent some of the day getting things ready to take to Laura and Lindsey's. Then about 4:45, Jim took all of the food that Linda had prepared and put it in the back of CLT and they left.
Soon after they got there, they opened presents. While they were opening the presents, Marv and Inez stopped by and then after all the presents were opened, they all ate roast beef sandwiches, crackers and chips with cheese, sausage, dip or salsa sauce on them.
Of course there were cookies and candies to finish off the meal with. ; )
About 8:00 Marv and Inez left and soon after Jim and Linda came back here to the park.
After returning and getting the food put away, Jim and Linda watched some of the Christmas specials on TV before going to bed.
Yesterday was a great day. Jim and Linda were able to spend some time with family and they received some neat presents. Today I think Jim and Linda are just going to kick back and enjoy each others company. They'll probably watch some TV and fool around with the computers, but much of the time will be spent just being together.

Dinner At Marv And Inez's

Jim and Linda headed over to Marv and Inez's house about 10:30 yesterday morning. Again, the meal that Inez put together for her family was just fabulous. There was ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, a couple kinds of vegetables, and of course, deserts like pies, cookies and puddings.
Both Jim and Linda said that there was more food than even that large family could possibly consume!!! : )
After eating, Marv and Inez's family exchanged gifts. Jim and Linda even received some small jars of jam that Inez had made and a scented candle.
It's so nice of Marv and Inez to include Jim and Linda in their family celebration. Jim and Linda really appreciate it and are very grateful. Thanks!!!
About 5:00 today, Jim and Linda will be heading over to Laura and Lindsey's house to exchange presents with them. It should be a fun evening.
If for some reason, I shouldn't post tomorrow, Jim, Linda, CLT and I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas!!!! Have a great day!!!! : )

Weather, Shopping and Spaghetti

Yesterday was another beautiful day here in DeBary and today looks like it's going to be almost as nice. It's funny how you get used to nice warm days with temperatures in the 70's and 80's and then when the temperatures drop down into the 60's you think it's cold and not good weather anymore.
At the same time, if the folks up north had sunny weather with the temperatures in the 60's, (or even 50's), at this time of the year, they would be talking about how great the weather was.
Why am I writing about this? Well, tonight there's going to be a cold front coming through this area and the forecast for tomorrow is for high temperatures in the lower 60's with lows getting down into the upper 30's or low 40's!!! The folks down here, (especially the ones who live down here all year), will be complaining about how cold it is and will be wearing heavy coats, hats and gloves, where as the people up North would be thinking they're having a heat wave and be out and about in short sleeve shirts!!
I find it interesting how folks in different parts of the country look at different weather conditions. I guess it's all what your used to. ; )
Linda washed a load of laundry yesterday morning and then in the afternoon she and Jim took CLT (Cute Little Truck), and went to the Winn Dixie grocery store to buy groceries that will be needed over the Christmas holiday.
CLT said that the parking lot was almost completely full and he saw lots of people going in and out of the store while he was there.
After getting the groceries put away, both Jim and Linda took little naps and then took CLT again and headed over to Laura and Lindsey's for a great spaghetti dinner. Lindsey's parents, (Marv and Inez) were there too so after eating, everyone sat around and talked for awhile.
It was around 8:00 by the time Jim and Linda came back here. The rest of the evening was spent watching TV, reading and surfing the Internet.
I think that today, Linda is planning on doing some more baking. She bought stuff to make cookies and cranberry bread yesterday. I don't know if Jim has any plans except to possibly put away some of the stuff on the patio and roll up my awnings. They're forecasting possible t-storms with possible high gusts of winds for tonight when the cold front comes through.
Did you know that Silent Night was written in 1818, by an Austrian priest Joseph Mohr? He was told the day before Christmas that the church organ was broken and would not be prepared in time for Christmas Eve. He was saddened by this and could not think of Christmas without music, so he wanted to write a carol that could be sung by choir to guitar music. He sat down and wrote three stanzas. Later that night the people in the little Austrian Church sang "Stille Nacht" for the first time.

Thanksgiving Update

About 1:30 Thanksgiving morning, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Marv and Inez's house. Ashley, her friend Travis and Anna were already there and soon the rest of the family came. Before they ate, Jim got this photo of Lindsey, Laura, Ashley and Anna goofing around out on the deck behind the house.
As you can see, the weather was almost prefect with the temperatures in the mid 70's and plenty of sunshine.
a By a little after noon, everyone was enjoying a great Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, ham and all the trimmings. ; )
After they sat and talked for awhile, Linda started feeling like she had an upset stomach. Soon it was decided that she and Jim would head back here as she wasn't feeling any better. By the time they returned here to the park she was quite sick and spent a good part of the rest of the day in my bathroom.
Of course the first thing that comes to mind was food poison, but no one else got sick and she was running a fever, which probably means that she picked up a "bug" someplace. : (
Anyway, by Friday morning, she was feeling better and spent a good part of the day sleeping. So far, Jim has been feeling fine and it looks like he may have dodged the bullet.
Nothing much happened yesterday. Linda was recuperating so Jim spent some time outside, but stayed pretty close in case she needed something.
So, the holiday was sort of a "mixed bag". A great meal with great people but ending with Linda getting sick. Jim and Linda had to leave Marv and Inez's pretty quick but want them to know that they really enjoyed the meal the the time that they were able to be there with them.

About 1:30 Thanksgiving morning, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Marv and Inez's house. Ashley, her friend Travis and Anna were already there and soon the rest of the family came. Before they ate, Jim got this photo of Lindsey, Laura, Ashley and Anna goofing around out on the deck behind the house.
As you can see, the weather was almost prefect with the temperatures in the mid 70's and plenty of sunshine.
a By a little after noon, everyone was enjoying a great Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, ham and all the trimmings. ; )
After they sat and talked for awhile, Linda started feeling like she had an upset stomach. Soon it was decided that she and Jim would head back here as she wasn't feeling any better. By the time they returned here to the park she was quite sick and spent a good part of the rest of the day in my bathroom.
Of course the first thing that comes to mind was food poison, but no one else got sick and she was running a fever, which probably means that she picked up a "bug" someplace. : (
Anyway, by Friday morning, she was feeling better and spent a good part of the day sleeping. So far, Jim has been feeling fine and it looks like he may have dodged the bullet.
Nothing much happened yesterday. Linda was recuperating so Jim spent some time outside, but stayed pretty close in case she needed something.
So, the holiday was sort of a "mixed bag". A great meal with great people but ending with Linda getting sick. Jim and Linda had to leave Marv and Inez's pretty quick but want them to know that they really enjoyed the meal the the time that they were able to be there with them.

I'm Still Here and Some Ranting

I'm still here!!!! Just nothing much to write about.
The weather has been OK, but we've had a few drizzly days where the sun didn't shine and it was almost foggy a good part of the day. The temperature has only been in the 60's, so along with the dampness, it felt pretty chilly.
Jim has been able to get a short ride in on his bike every day and he says that his legs are getting more used to the peddling. Linda has been working on some embroidery projects and entering data into the Family Tree program. Thursday, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed to DeLand Truck Center to see if they had some tire valve stem extensions to use on my inside dual tires.
They didn't have any, but have some on order, so he'll go back in a week or so to see if they've got anything he can use to make checking and inflating my tires easier.
On the way back here, they stopped at Auto Zone to pick up some new wiper blades for CLT, and then stopped at Gram's Kitchen for breakfast. : )
Yesterday afternoon, Laura and Lindsey stopped by for awhile. The weather was pretty decent so Jim and Lindsey sat outside and talked while Laura and Linda spent time together inside.
Have any of you been bothered by all the Christmas adds that they've had on TV already? They've been running them in this area since before Halloween!! They don't seem to have bothered Linda much, but both Jim and I don't like them this early.
Also, how about some of the major department stores plans to be open on Thanksgiving Day!!!! Some of the store spokespeople are saying that the customers are demanding that they are open so that they can get an early start!!!!
Baloney!!!!! They're just trying to justify opening on a holiday so they can make more money!!! Some of the employees are raising a fuss about working on Thanksgiving and I don't blame them, they want to be home with their families!!!! It's bad enough that the great folks who are Firemen, Policemen, Health Care Providers and others who provide essential services have to work, but they knew that they'd have to work the holidays when they applied for the job.
Well, I guess that's enough Ranting for today. I'll quit before I get myself into too much trouble. ; )

Veterans Day, Groceries, More Set-UP, Laura And Lindsey

Please take a moment today to honor all the veterans, past and present. If it wasn't for them, our lives would be so much different.
Below you'll find a quick summary of what's been happening since I last posted. Jim and Linda are slowly settling down into normal day to day living, and I'm sure after we've been here even longer, there'll be less and less to write about.
I'm also sure some of what I'll be writing about in the next few months will be very boring, but they want me to keep posting as much as possible so that in the future, they can go back and see what happened while we were here.
Today, we're looking forward to seeing Ashley and Anna. Anna is here in DeBary for a few days, (She works and lives over by Jacksonville), and yesterday, Laura told Linda that they want to stop by for a little while.
I'm really looking forward to their visit! : )

About the only thing worth mentioning on Thursday was that as soon as Linda got up and had her breakfast, she and Jim took CLT and headed to the Winn Dixie Grocery store which is only about a mile from here. They were gone for quite awhile so I figured that they were buying a lot of groceries, and I was right, they brought back all kinds of groceries!!!! : O
They did get them all stashed away inside of me though, so I guess it's OK. ; )

Friday, as soon as it warmed up, (it was 41 degrees at 7:00 AM), Jim went outside and got his bike out of the back of CLT. Then, he put out my awnings and tied the main awning down with the straps and bungee cords. When he was finished with that, he removed the tow bar off of the front of CLT and put it underneath me on some small boards, so it doesn't sit right on the ground.
While he was doing that, Linda was doing laundry and working on her Family Tree Program.
You've probably noticed that I haven't mentioned anything about Laura and Lindsey since we've been here. Well, until Monday, they didn't know that we would be arriving a week earlier than planned, and they had already planned a camping trip for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. So, until Friday afternoon, they were on their camping trip, (with their pop-up trailer), at one of Florida's State Parks.
Friday afternoon, they called and said that they were on their way back home and wanted to know if it would be OK for them to come over around 5:00. They also said that they'd stop by and pick up a pizza for dinner on their way out here to the RV Park.
Well, of course Linda and Jim said that the plan sounded great and told them to come on out here as soon as they could.
So, around 5:00 they pulled up in front of me and then after h and h (hugs and handshakes), they all sat down, enjoyed a very good pizza and talked and talked until around 8:00.
It sure was good to see Laura and Lindsey again. It's been almost a year since we've seen them and a lot of things have happened since then.

After airing his bicycle tires up, Jim took a ride around the park. He hasn't ridden it since we were in Rantoul in September, so he didn't go too far on the first day. He says that he's going to gradually increase the distance to get his legs back in shape again.
In the afternoon, Laura stopped by again. Didn't want anything, just stopped by to chat for awhile. I think she misses her mom. ; )
For dinner, Jim cooked a couple pork chops on the grill and Linda cooked some cauliflower on my stove.
A Quick Fact. : Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.

Change Q?

I give up!!!!!! Not 2 hours after I posted yesterday's blog, Jim and Linda decided to stay here at the Kampers Lodge Campground for 2 more nights!!!!! Since we've left Rantoul back in September, there's been so many changes to this trip that I've lost count, so I'm calling this change, change Q!!!!!
It may actually be change J or change R, but who really knows? I don't think even Jim or Linda know!!
So, , , , , why did this change take place? Well, as far as I can tell, it was decided because the rates here in this park are very good, (Passport America, remember?), it's nice and quiet here, all amenities work very well, and the people running the park are supper nice.
Besides, we have some days to "kill" before we're scheduled to get to our winter destination, down in Florida. : )
So, what did Jim and Linda do yesterday? Not much.
Jim walked to the office and paid for 2 more nights, surfed the Internet, took a nap, watched some TV and cooked a steak on the grill for him and Linda to sharel.
Linda worked most of the day on her Family Tree program. Online, she has found a whole bunch of information on Jim's side of the family that she didn't have. She also watched some TV, cooked some cauliflower and got out bread and other things to have with the steak.
I don't think that there's any big plans for today, probably just more of the same. Then tomorrow we should be heading farther South, but who knows? We may have change "R" !!!!!!

A Kick-Back Day and CG Photos

Not a whole lot to write about. Jim dumped my tanks, put some additional water in my fresh water tank and checked me over in the afternoon yesterday. Then for dinner, he cooked a couple burgers on the grill.
Meanwhile, Linda was doing laundry, taking advantage of the free wi-fi here at the park and putting together the rest of the dinner.
Jim did take his camera and get some photos of this CG, so I thought I'd post a few.

Yesterday the weather was quite nice, but as you can see above, it's now 34 degrees and they're forecasting more cold temps for this area again tonight.
But, we won't be here tonight. Today, we'll head farther South and hopefully it'll be a little warmer. : ) I don't know just how far we'll get, Jim has 3 different parks picked out along our planned route, so it'll just depend on how far he feels like driving.
Oh, a little more about the Kampers Lodge Park here in Wilson. For the money, (Passport America rate), it's a great park with great folks running it. The new owners are working hard to make improvements, and from talking to some of the other people here in the park, Jim says that it sounds like they're doing a fine job.
So, , , , , if you're traveling through the area and need a friendly, quiet place for the night, or even longer, stop by. These folks are trying hard to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Did you know that November is "National Peanut Butter Lovers Month"?

VA To NC and A Run-A-Way Fan

Most of Tuesday was spent getting me ready to travel, at least until about 4:30 when Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Joe and Nancy's house. Again, Nancy put together a great meal that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Of course the main reason for going there was to see Joe, Nancy, Sami and Amber one last time before we left the area.
So, after a very nice evening of visiting there were h and h (hugs and handshakes), and final good-bye's before Jim and Linda headed back to the RV Park, about 9:00.
Yesterday morning, everything went smoothly and by 9:45 we were pulling out of the Holiday Trav-L-Park and making our way back to I-264. 264 brought us back to I-64, which we followed around to the South and then picked up US 58, and headed West on it. 58 brought us back to I-95 where we turned South and followed it down into North Carolina.
By this time it was time for a "pit stop", so Jim pulled me into the NC welcome center rest area. It was at this time that Jim discovered that my vent fan in the "little room", (the room with the toilet), was open and running full blast!!! The problem was that all of the switches that control the fan were turned off and there was no reason for the fan to be open and running.
So, being that we were in the rest area and not out on the road someplace, Jim got some tools and proceeded to dismantle the fan from the inside. I still don't know what happened, but the little gears that raise and lower the fan were broken and wouldn't let Jim manually lower the lid, so that part had to be removed and the lid fastened down with mini bungee cords to stop it from flopping around as we traveled.
I still don't know why the fan was open in the first place, because like I said, all the switches were turned off. This may be a problem best solved by my mechanic down in Florida.
It took about 1/2 hour for Jim to take the fan apart and get everything secured. After he was finished we continued South on I-95, down to US 64 at Rocky Mount. Turning East on 64 for a few miles brought us to US 301 where we turned South and followed 301 for about 17 miles to the Kampers Lodge RV Park. Jim had heard good things about this park and being that it's also a Passport America park, he had decided to try it.
It was about 1:45 when we pulled up to the office, so it took us almost exactly 4 hours to travel 173 miles and work on my vent fan.
Well, we're not disappointed with this Campground. I have a pull-through, full hook-up site with 50 amp electric and cable TV, all for $20 per night. The site is long enough for both myself and CLT , but being that Jim parked me more in the center of the site, CLT is parked along side of me. The people in the office were great and the lady led me to my site with a golf cart. The cable TV hasn't been installed on my site yet, so a man brought a long length of TV cable and ran it from a site up the row to my site.
He then waited until Jim tuned on the TV to make sure everything was working before he left.
After getting me set up, Jim took a nap and Linda worked on her Family Tree program, using the free and very strong wi-fi, here in the park. Then, about 5:30 Jim and Linda took CLT and, after stopping at the office to ask for suggestions, headed into Wilson and to Parkers Restaurant for dinner.
Parkers is mainly a barbecue place but they have chicken and seafood also. Linda had the chicken, which was very good, and Jim had a fish dinner, which he said, wasn't the greatest.
After dinner, they came back here and watched TV, worked/played with the computers until bedtime.
Jim and Linda have paid for 2 nights at this CG. Then, the plan is to leave here tomorrow and continue wandering South. We'll stop at one more CG before we get down to the Jacksonville area, where Linda and Jim are hoping to be able to stop and see Linda's grand daughter, Anna.
I hope all of you had a good Halloween. They've got all kinds of decorations here in and around the CG office, but not many RVs have decorations.
I also hope that any of you who were in Hurricane Sandy's path are OK and you don't have too much damage. This far inland, we haven't seen any effects of the storm.

Parkers is mainly a barbecue place but they have chicken and seafood also. Linda had the chicken, which was very good, and Jim had a fish dinner, which he said, wasn't the greatest.
After dinner, they came back here and watched TV, worked/played with the computers until bedtime.
Jim and Linda have paid for 2 nights at this CG. Then, the plan is to leave here tomorrow and continue wandering South. We'll stop at one more CG before we get down to the Jacksonville area, where Linda and Jim are hoping to be able to stop and see Linda's grand daughter, Anna.
I hope all of you had a good Halloween. They've got all kinds of decorations here in and around the CG office, but not many RVs have decorations.
I also hope that any of you who were in Hurricane Sandy's path are OK and you don't have too much damage. This far inland, we haven't seen any effects of the storm.

Nancy's Bucket List and A Disappointing Meal

My Internet signal here at the CG has been really quirky the last few days. As I'm typing this, the signal keeps dropping off and on, but I really wanted to post so that I didn't get too far behind.
Saturday evening, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed where Nancy was doing her fitness show. Well, come to find out, this was actually a local body building contest and many of the participants were really into the strength and body building thing.
This was on Nancy's "bucket list" and it's the first time that she has done anything like this. She's been training for almost a year, practicing her poses eating only certain foods and doing all the other things necessary get ready to compete.
So, how did she do??? Well, she came home with 3 trophies!!!! 2 4th place and 1 5th place. One was for the "novice class" category, one for the "tall women's class", and one for the "over 40 years old class" !!! : )
Really great for her first, (and she says her last), competition!!!! ; )
Sunday, absolutely nothing happened except to watch all the week-end campers pack up and head for home. Linda worked some more on her family tree program and Jim watched football on TV.
Yesterday, was another slow day. About 4:30 or so, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Joe and Nancy's and then they and Joe, Nancy, Sami and Amber went out to eat at the Atlas Restaurant near their house for dinner.
The company was great and everyone had a good time, but in the last few years there has been a bunch of changes at the Restaurant and none of them seem to be for the better. Joe's food was cold, Sami's order was messed up and had to send it back, hardly any of the food really stood out and the service left something to be desired.
From what I understand, the Atlas used to be a very good place to eat and many times the restaurant was crowded. Now, there were only a few people in there and I doubt that Jim and Linda or Joe and Nancy will go back again.
Very disappointing. : (
The rest of Linda's prescription are supposed to be ready today, so Jim and Linda will probably be heading over to Walgreens. They also have a grocery list started, so they may pick those items up at a grocery store while they're out and about, but we'll see.

North Carolina To Virginia
Virginia Beach, VA.

Forecasts = Partly cloudy. High of 75F. Winds from the SSE at 10 to 15 mph.
Everything went well and by 8:50 we were pulling out of the Dickens RV Park and heading the 3 or 4 miles back to US 1. Once on 1, we took it NE and up to the Raleigh area, where it joined up with US 64. We then took US 64/I-440 around the city until 64 headed East from the city. Then we followed 64 over to Rocky Mount, where we tuned North on I-95. 95 took us up into Virginia where we stopped at a Love's Truck Stop near Skippers, VA. to get me a drink of that good old #2 diesel fuel. : )
Again, everything went well at the station and soon we were back out on I-95 and heading to Emporia, where we turned East on US 58. 58 took us to Portsmouth where we turned South on I-64 and took it around the South side of the City. After 64 took us around to Virginia Beach, we turned East on I-264 and took it East towards downtown Virginia Beach. When we came to 1st Colonial, (exit 21), we turned South on it and followed it down to the Holiday Trav-L-Park.
It was 1:15 when we pulled up in front of the office, so it took us 4 hours and 25 minutes to travel 230 miles and stop for my drink.
Not too shabby!!! ; )
The Holiday Trav-L-Park is a huge park. When we were here a year ago, I was in site # 107 and this time I'm in site 255, but they actually have over 800 RV sites in the park!!
An RV could get lost in this place!!! : O
After getting me set up in my full hook-up site with 50 amp electric and after relaxing a little, Jim took a little nap. Then, about 4:00, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Joe and Nancy's. After all the h and h, (hugs and handshakes), and some visiting, everyone enjoyed a great spaghetti and meatball dinner that Nancy made.
After dinner, it was more visiting before CLT brought them back here to the Park.
Today, Joe, Nancy and the girls are going to be busy so Jim and Linda will not be going over there. It's time for Linda to get her prescriptions refilled again, so she and Jim are planning on getting that accomplished. Jim still needs to get me hooked up to the sewer connection, so I imagine he'll do that today.
As of this morning, I have a very weak signal on the AT&T air card here at the park. So far it has held the signal while I've been typing this post. We're in a different area of the park than we were a year ago, so maybe I'll be able to post regularly.
I hope so.

A Little Repair, Dinner At Perkins and More Photo Albums

Sunday was a very nice day, (once it warmed up a little in the morning), so Jim spent quite a bit of time outside doing "things".
One thing he definitely wanted to get done was to check my front clearance lights. These lights have leaked water into me before when it rains and after the last heavy rain we had, there was a small amount of water running down on the inside of my windshield.
Even before Jim and Linda bought me, one of my previous owners had put sealer all around each light, (the lights are kind of recessed into the panel over my windshield), and once before, Jim had added additional sealer to stop a leak. This time, he added a little more where it looked like the sealant had pulled away from the lights and we're hoping that this will take care of the problem.
Since he had to get his folding step ladder out to reach the lights, he also used it to spay a little silicone spray on my main awning joints and roller tube ends. When he sprays these areas, it seems to make the awning open and close easier, putting less strain on the little electric motor.
While Jim was busy outside, Linda was digging through the last box of photo albums. In this box, she has found a whole bunch of photos plus a whole bunch of birth announcements and other papers that have important information about family members.
As planned, for dinner, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the Perkins Restaurant in Apex, to have dinner with Mike and his family. CLT says that everyone seemed to enjoy their meals, but of course the main reason for being there was to spend time with family. ; )
After eating and talking for awhile, CLT brought Jim and Linda back here and Mike and his family headed back to their house.
Yesterday morning started out with a pretty sunrise. Jim took this photo from my site here in the park, so I thought I'd share. ; )
As soon as Linda got up, she and Jim continued going through more albums. They found a whole bunch of family photos in one of the albums that Jim's mother had put together many, many years ago, and spent the better part of the day working on them.
During the morning, the clouds started moving in and for a good part of the afternoon we had showers, some of them quite heavy. Then, about 5:00 Jim and Linda took CLT and headed back to Mike and Gina's for dinner and to visit some more. After a yet another nice meal, they visited to around 7:30 and then headed back here.
Today, being that it's our last day here, Jim and Linda have to get done with the photo albums. Jim also needs to dump my tanks and add a little water to my fresh water tank. Then, I'm quite sure he'll put all the hoses away so he doesn't have to do it in the morning when it's cold and those hoses are stiff as a board! : )

A Quick Trip To Wally World

Well, Jim and Linda did not go to the grocery store yesterday, but in the afternoon they did go to a Wally World in Sanford to pick up a few items. One of the main reasons for go there was to find a birthday present for Dillon, (Mike and Gina's youngest child and Jim's Grandson), who will turn 5 this Friday. While they were at Wally World, they also bought a few H & B items that they needed.
Then, since it was getting close to dinner time, they headed over to the Brass Kettle Restaurant where they had another very good meal.
Other than that, not a whole lot happened yesterday. It was still only in the 50's, overcast, and it was misting rain much of the day, so it wasn't very pleasant outside.
Today is supposed to be much nicer. ; )
So, since they didn't get groceries yesterday, Jim and Linda will need to go grocery shopping either today or tomorrow. Linda has more laundry to do, plus go through some more of those old picture albums to find photos for her Family Tree Maker program and Jim has some things he wants/needs to do outside, so they could go either day.
I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. ; )

Old Photo Albums, Change Coming and A Close Call

Not a whole lot to report on this morning, but I thought I'd check in.
The main thing that happened was that Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Mike and Gina's yesterday evening. Linda had asked Mike if he could dig out the old family photo albums and he had brought them out of storage for Linda to look at.
You see, the Family Tree Maker program that Linda is using, allows you to insert photos into the program so that you have a record of what people looked like. And, buried in those boxes of albums are the photos that Linda would like to use.
After having a very nice meal of Polish Sausage, baked beans and salad, some of the boxes were opened and most of the rest of the evening was spent looking through some of the albums.
Jim and Linda brought 2 boxes of albums back here, and today I'm sure Linda and Jim will spend some time going through them and trying to decide on which photos need to be scanned onto the computers hard drive. Then, in the next few days, they'll take these boxes back to Mike's and bring some more back here.
Today, Mike and his family will be busy. The kids have some activities that they need to go to and Mike has some chores that need his attention at the house.
Mike and Gina were planning out coming out here to the RV Park on Sunday, but all the weather reports are saying that we're in for a big change in the weather. The current forecast is for rain, falling temperatures with highs in the lower 60's and fairly strong winds. : ( So, they will probably wait until next weekend and Jim and Linda will go to their house instead.
Oh, and just one more thing.
CLT had a real close call on the way back here to the RV Park last night. 2 deer rain across the road right in front of him!!!! He said that it surprised him so much that his oil pressure went up a few pounds and his temperature rose a little before he finally calmed back down.
I think Jim will let him go a little slower on the way back here to the CG from now on. There's lots of deer out and about this time of the year.

A Great Visit

I've been having a great time visiting with Big Herb. I think I've been able to pick up his spirits a little. Like I said, he's had to stay in his RV port for most of the summer, and now it sounds like he'll have to stay here all by himself through the winter. : (
There is some good news for him though. It sounds like Roland and Louise are planning on taking him on an extended trip to the Midwest next summer and he may even come and visit me in Rantoul! : )
Jim and Linda have been visiting with Roland and Louise these last 4 days. Louise had to go a doctor's appointment in Charlotte yesterday, but they weren't gone too long. Linda put together a casserole one night, but Louise has made most of the meals with Linda bringing side dishes to contribute, and last night, Roland cooked brats and hot dogs on his grill.
They sure smelled good!!!!!! ; )
These last 5 days have really gone by fast and it's been great to see Roland, Louise and Big Herb again, but today, we'll be leaving here and heading for Apex, NC to see Mike and his family. (We'll be staying at an RV Park in Moncure, NC. which is close to Apex). In fact, Mike called yesterday to make sure we were still coming today and arrangements were made for Jim and Linda to head over to their house for dinner tonight.

Even Long Time Full-Timers Forget and IN To KY

Forecast = Numerous showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 70s. West winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
That big eraser that Jim has was put to use again Tuesday morning. The plan was to leave Indy and head for KY, but the weather was not looking good at all so Jim and Linda decided to stay another day.
So, , , , yesterday morning we left the Lake Haven Retreat CG about 9:30 and headed back up to I-465. Heading East on 465 took us to I-74 which took us over to Cincinnati where we took I-275 around to the South of the city and picked up I-75 heading South. We then followed 75 all the way down here to Berea, KY and to the Walnut Meadows RV Park.
Now, it was just as we were turning South onto I-75 on the South side of Cincinnati that there was a big "crash" sound from somewhere inside of me!! By the sound of the noise, I just knew it couldn't be good!!!! It sounded like some cabinet or drawer had come open and all contents had come out and crashed to the floor!!!! : O
There was no place to pull off of the road right there, so Linda got up and went back to see what had happened, while Jim drove very carefully so as not to make any sudden changes in speed or direction while she was looking.
Once Linda got up and walked back into my kitchen, it was very apparent what had happened. You see, I have a pantry that has 6 drawers that are completely full of canned goods. Most of it in cans, but some in jars. Well, it seems that neither Jim or Linda remembered to latch the drawers closed before closing the door to the pantry. As we were going around the corner to merge onto I-75, the drawers pushed against the door and forced the door open, letting all six drawers come crashing out as far as possible on their slides.
Well, needless to say, there were canned goods scattered all over the floor and some of it had fallen as much as 6 feet!!!! : O
Luckily, there was a rest area a few miles down the road, so Jim pulled in and went back to help Linda. Luckily, none of the cans or jars had broken, but there were cans everywhere!!! One of the drawers wouldn't slide back in, but during further inspection, it was discovered that there was a can wedged behind it, and once removed, the drawer closed.
Most of the cans were placed back in the drawers and the drawers were latched shut, but things had gotten so mixed up that Jim finally put some of the cans in the sink rather than trying to fit every one of them back in place.
I don't know just how long we were at the rest area, but I think it was about 15 or 20 minutes. It doesn't appear that anything was damaged, (except a few bent and dented cans), and all the drawers seem to work properly, so everything turned out OK. : )
Whew!!!!
It was 1:30 when we pulled up to the office so it took us almost exactly 4 hours to travel the 223 miles down here and stop at the rest area.
Walunt Meadows is OK. Nothing special, but it is near to where Linda's cousin, Rick and his wife Doris live and Jim and Linda have stayed here quite a few times in the past.
After getting settled in and getting the rest of the cans put away, : ) Linda called Rick to let him know that we were here. Then about 5:50 Rick and Doris came over, took a quick tour of me, and then they all headed over to the Cracker Barrell to meet Rick and Doris' son, Cory, and his family for dinner.
After eating and visiting for quite awhile, Rick and Doris brought Jim and Linda back here. Then, it was h and h (hugs and handshakes) before Rick and Doris headed home.
It was a short visit, but a very good one. Jim and Linda always look forward to seeing Rick and his family, and I'm sure the next time we're passing through this area, we'll stop again.
Hopefully for a longer visit next time. : )
A Point to Ponder : Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

That big eraser that Jim has was put to use again Tuesday morning. The plan was to leave Indy and head for KY, but the weather was not looking good at all so Jim and Linda decided to stay another day.
So, , , , yesterday morning we left the Lake Haven Retreat CG about 9:30 and headed back up to I-465. Heading East on 465 took us to I-74 which took us over to Cincinnati where we took I-275 around to the South of the city and picked up I-75 heading South. We then followed 75 all the way down here to Berea, KY and to the Walnut Meadows RV Park.
Now, it was just as we were turning South onto I-75 on the South side of Cincinnati that there was a big "crash" sound from somewhere inside of me!! By the sound of the noise, I just knew it couldn't be good!!!! It sounded like some cabinet or drawer had come open and all contents had come out and crashed to the floor!!!! : O
There was no place to pull off of the road right there, so Linda got up and went back to see what had happened, while Jim drove very carefully so as not to make any sudden changes in speed or direction while she was looking.
Once Linda got up and walked back into my kitchen, it was very apparent what had happened. You see, I have a pantry that has 6 drawers that are completely full of canned goods. Most of it in cans, but some in jars. Well, it seems that neither Jim or Linda remembered to latch the drawers closed before closing the door to the pantry. As we were going around the corner to merge onto I-75, the drawers pushed against the door and forced the door open, letting all six drawers come crashing out as far as possible on their slides.
Well, needless to say, there were canned goods scattered all over the floor and some of it had fallen as much as 6 feet!!!! : O
Luckily, there was a rest area a few miles down the road, so Jim pulled in and went back to help Linda. Luckily, none of the cans or jars had broken, but there were cans everywhere!!! One of the drawers wouldn't slide back in, but during further inspection, it was discovered that there was a can wedged behind it, and once removed, the drawer closed.
