I give up!!!!!! Not 2 hours after I posted yesterday's blog, Jim and Linda decided to stay here at the Kampers Lodge Campground for 2 more nights!!!!! Since we've left Rantoul back in September, there's been so many changes to this trip that I've lost count, so I'm calling this change, change Q!!!!!
It may actually be change J or change R, but who really knows? I don't think even Jim or Linda know!!
So, , , , , why did this change take place? Well, as far as I can tell, it was decided because the rates here in this park are very good, (Passport America, remember?), it's nice and quiet here, all amenities work very well, and the people running the park are supper nice.
Besides, we have some days to "kill" before we're scheduled to get to our winter destination, down in Florida. : )
So, what did Jim and Linda do yesterday? Not much.
Jim walked to the office and paid for 2 more nights, surfed the Internet, took a nap, watched some TV and cooked a steak on the grill for him and Linda to sharel.
Linda worked most of the day on her Family Tree program. Online, she has found a whole bunch of information on Jim's side of the family that she didn't have. She also watched some TV, cooked some cauliflower and got out bread and other things to have with the steak.
I don't think that there's any big plans for today, probably just more of the same. Then tomorrow we should be heading farther South, but who knows? We may have change "R" !!!!!!

Old Photo Albums, Change Coming and A Close Call

Forecast = Sunny, high temp. 82 deg. SW wind @ 5 to 10 mph.
Not a whole lot to report on this morning, but I thought I'd check in.
The main thing that happened was that Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to Mike and Gina's yesterday evening. Linda had asked Mike if he could dig out the old family photo albums and he had brought them out of storage for Linda to look at.
You see, the Family Tree Maker program that Linda is using, allows you to insert photos into the program so that you have a record of what people looked like. And, buried in those boxes of albums are the photos that Linda would like to use.
After having a very nice meal of Polish Sausage, baked beans and salad, some of the boxes were opened and most of the rest of the evening was spent looking through some of the albums.
Jim and Linda brought 2 boxes of albums back here, and today I'm sure Linda and Jim will spend some time going through them and trying to decide on which photos need to be scanned onto the computers hard drive. Then, in the next few days, they'll take these boxes back to Mike's and bring some more back here.
Today, Mike and his family will be busy. The kids have some activities that they need to go to and Mike has some chores that need his attention at the house.
Mike and Gina were planning out coming out here to the RV Park on Sunday, but all the weather reports are saying that we're in for a big change in the weather. The current forecast is for rain, falling temperatures with highs in the lower 60's and fairly strong winds. : ( So, they will probably wait until next weekend and Jim and Linda will go to their house instead.
Oh, and just one more thing.
CLT had a real close call on the way back here to the RV Park last night. 2 deer rain across the road right in front of him!!!! He said that it surprised him so much that his oil pressure went up a few pounds and his temperature rose a little before he finally calmed back down.
I think Jim will let him go a little slower on the way back here to the CG from now on. There's lots of deer out and about this time of the year.

Just Jabbering

Forecast = Mostly cloudy in the morning, then partly cloudy with a chance of rain. High of 82F. Winds from the South at 5 to 10 mph shifting to the WSW in the afternoon. Chance of rain 40%.
It's been pretty breezy the last few days and the temperatures have been into the mid to upper 80's so if you didn't mind the wind, it was a pretty nice day to be out and about.
Not much happening here in Rantoul. Things are definitely winding down here in the Campground. Jim went over and talked to Louise for awhile yesterday morning before heading over to Rural King to pick up a few items. Then, after lunch he took an important letter that needed to be mailed, to the post office.
Linda has been finding some really interesting things on-line for her family tree program. She has found names and dates of some of her ancestors that she's been looking for, for years. She's trying to find as much information as possible while we're here and has the free wi-fi.
Don't know what's going to happen today. Jim didn't sleep well last night so he'll probably take a pretty long nap. They're forecasting rain for later on today, so maybe he can get a few things done outside this morning and then take his nap later.

Grrrrrrr!!!!! and We Had Company

It's beyond me how some people can get pleasure out of messing up someones computer!!!! I can even understand it a little if they're trying to get some information, but to just mess up someones computer for no reason??????
As you can probably tell by now, Jim's laptop computer had a virus/malware or whatever you want to call it, and it was messing everything up!!!!! Couldn't get onto some sites, got warnings that the computer was infected and got all kinds of error messages!!! : (
As soon as this started happening, Jim shut the computer down, got onto Linda's desktop and e-mailed Greg at GeekyGuys. If you been following this blog for awhile, you already know that Jim and Linda have used Greg's services before. In fact last year, he built Linda's desktop computer for her and fixed a few problems with this laptop. Before that, he cleaned out a really nasty virus that Jim had on this laptop.
He's really good at what he does and his fees are not out of line at all.
To make a long story shorter, Greg has this computer cleaned up and running like a top again, and I'm back to blogging!!! : )
So, what has been happening since I last posted on Labor Day? Well, actually quite a bit!!
We've had more rain and some storms go through this area, There's been a couple local shopping trips made, but most important, is that we had company!!! : )
Here's a photo of their rig which was in a site a little up the street from me. Do any of you recognize it? Well, I won't keep you in suspense too long.
It belongs to Mike and Terri Young who have a blog called Forever Young.
On Monday, (I think it was), Mike called and said that they would be coming through this area and was wondering if Jim and Linda would be around. He said that he knew it was short notice, but they would be here on Tuesday!!!.
Well, they didn't make it here on Tuesday because of a little problem, (I'll let Mike tell you about it on his blog), but they did make it here Wednesday.
They weren't able to make it here until later in the afternoon, so instead of going out to eat someplace, They just ordered a couple Pizzas delivered instead. (That Mike paid for). Thanks Mike!!!! : )
The pizza along with some chocolate cake that Linda got out of the freezer earlier, made for a very nice meal.
By the time Mike and Terri had their rig set up, came over here and talked and relaxed a little, the pizza arrived. Then they sat down inside of me to eat and catch up on what has been happening since we last saw them last summer.
As always, it was good conversation with very good friends. ; )
Mike and Terri had already had a long day, so about 9:00 they headed back to their RV.
They could only stay for one night because they needed to continue heading East for an appointment they have, so, Thursday morning, after h and h, (hugs and handshakes), they loaded up and continued heading East. : (
Both Jim and Linda said that the visit with Mike and Terri was way to short, but before they left they were already talking about meeting up again, maybe even sometime later on this year, over on the East Coast or down in Florida!! : )
That would be great!!!!! : )
As I stated at the beginning of this blog, we've had some more rain. If you remember, it was extremely dry when we arrived here in July and the grass, (and almost everything else), was completely dry. Well, this first photo was taken back then, just after we got here.
This photo was taken Thursday from about the same spot. A few inches of rain makes a big difference.
Yesterday, we had quite a bit of rain again when a cold front came through. The temperatures have been in the mid to upper 80's, but today they're forecasting a high of 70 degrees, and not near as humid.
That's good because there are 4 groups here in the CG for the weekend. Two of the groups are hear already and I think there may be another group here also. One group is an Airstream club and another is a Hi-Low Club.
Both of those clubs stand out because of their unique trailers.
Louise said that the CG is pretty much sold out for the weekend and I'm sure it is because there are already many more RV here than were here for the rainy Labor Day weekend.
Did you know that September is "National Chicken Month"?

Lots Of Rain

Forecast = Periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 70s. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 80 percent.
Lots of rain!!! I don't think that we'll get the 7 inches of rain from the remnants of Hurricane Isaac that some of the weather stations have fore casted, but we're getting there. As of this morning, Jim's rain gauge had 4.3 inches of rain in it, and they're forecasting more showers for today and tonight.
So far, I haven't heard of any flooding in the immediate area, but then who knows. The local TV stations around here evidently don't think that there is any news to report on the weekends. Oh, they have the evening news, but by that time, much of the news you're getting is almost 24 hours old!!!
Being that it rained off and on for much of yesterday, there's not much to report on from here. Friday, Jim did go to the Rural King store and pick up a few items that he wanted, but other than that, he and Linda haven't done much except watch TV, read, and work/play with the computers.
A lot of RVs came in for the weekend, but there are quite a few sites empty, so there must have been a lot of cancellations. It's too bad that this storm had to come right on the Labor Day weekend because that's the last weekend many people will get a chance to go camping.
So, what's going to happen today? I really don't have any idea. A lot will depend on the weather. There are still some showers just to the South of us and with the warm muggy air that we have now, more may form this afternoon.

Drivers, Usual Stuff and Olympics

Forecast = Showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
Why is it that some drivers insist on driving fast in campgrounds and RV Parks? Yesterday, a car came past in front of me that had to be going 30 mph!!! Now, if you're out on the street that goes past the CG that's fine, but here in the park, especially on the weekends, there are children playing and some of them wander out onto the roads from time to time!!!
This weekend, we have more children than we usually do, and I'm guessing that they range all the way from infants to teen-agers. When this guy went speeding by, there were about 5 or 6 small children, (I'm guessing ages 2 through 6), playing just feet away from the road. If one of them would have wandered out on the road from between parked cars, it would have been a disaster!!!! : O
And, it's not just people in cars either! How many of you have seen the guy in the big MH or truck pulling a 5th wheel go blasting through a park like they were out on an expressway?
What are these people thinking? Don't they realize that they can't stop that rig in time if a child should happen to run out onto road?
So, please slow down when driving through a CG or RV Park. You're site will still be there in 5 extra minutes, the the camper who invited you over for coffee will keep it hot for you and if you're leaving the CG, it really won't make any difference if you leave the park a few minutes later.
If you should happen to hit a child or even possibly an adult, you're sure to be a whole lot later, and just think how bad you would feel. : (
Jim and Linda didn't do anything special this weekend. Jim went through another one of my basement bays and re-arranged it. He also took a couple bike rides and talked to Paul and Louise. Linda did a lot of work on her Family Tree Maker program and of course, they both watched the Olympics on TV.
You know, I'm kind of glad that the Olympics are over. I enjoyed them but I'm looking forward to regular programing again. Oh, and talking about the Olympics, how did you like the closing ceremonies? I guess they were OK if you were a young person, but I just didn't get a lot of it.
Jim said that the only part of the closing ceremonies that he liked at all was the Spice Girls segment. ; )
They're talking about rain off and on all day today, so I don't know what, if anything, will get done outside. Jim has some computer stuff that he needs to get done, so maybe this will be a good day for doing that.
Did you know that the idea of an Olympic Flame burning from the start of the games to the closing was first introduced in 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, where a fire was lit in the tower of the stadium, though no torch relay was undertaken? The first torch relay was conducted for the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

How about those Olympic Games????? Have you been watching them on TV? I thought they were great last night!!!!!
We actually had a little rain yesterday. There were 2 "cells" that went through this area and both of them brought some rain.
I don't know how much we had, (probably less than 1/4 inch), but I think the grass looks a little greener this morning. : )

Mail, Papers, Groceries and #5

Forecast = Mostly sunny. Highs around 79 inland to around 73 at The shore. Light winds.
Had a small thunder storm go through here yesterday morning, so it kind of delayed Jim and Linda's departure. If you remember, they were to go and pick up their mail at the post office and then check their voicemail to see of those papers were ready to be signed.
Well, with the T-storm going through, it delayed them just long enough that if they had left right after the storm was over, they would have gotten to the post office while it was closed for lunch.
So, they waited here for awhile before heading into town.
Once into town, they checked their voicemail and found out the papers were ready, called Linda's sister, Nancy, to check on a few things about the family reunion, picked up their mail and then headed to Calumet to sign the papers.
After they were done with the papers, they headed to the IGA grocery store and bought some groceries that they'll be needing for the reunion and also some items to replenish things they had used out of my cabinets and refrigerator.
By the time they returned here to the CG it was mid-afternoon.
After they got some of the food put away, (I still don't know what they're going to do with all the food they bought to take to the reunion), Linda baked some cakes and cupcakes for the reunion. After they were done and cooled, she put them in my freezer and will get them out next week when needed.
By the time the cakes were done, it was time to eat dinner, so Linda got out the potato salad and heated up the chicken that they had bought from the store deli. That along with a few chips made a nice quick meal.
After dinner both Jim and Linda fired up the computers and worked on them until # 5 came along.
Yep, that's right!!!! We had another pretty sunset last night. Again, nothing spectacular, but the colors were just beautiful. Jim's little camera couldn't really capture all the different shades of pink, purple and orange, but I think you'll get the idea of how it looked on this photo.

Once the sun set, there were still some pretty colors in the sky, but nothing that Jim could capture on his camera. : (
Today, I think that Jim and Linda are planning on taking CLT and checking out some "scenic drives" in this area.
I hope Jim takes some photos. ; )

Had a small thunder storm go through here yesterday morning, so it kind of delayed Jim and Linda's departure. If you remember, they were to go and pick up their mail at the post office and then check their voicemail to see of those papers were ready to be signed.
Well, with the T-storm going through, it delayed them just long enough that if they had left right after the storm was over, they would have gotten to the post office while it was closed for lunch.
So, they waited here for awhile before heading into town.

More Rain And Wind
Maricopa, AZ

Forecast = Partly cloudy with a chance of rain. High of 54F. Winds from the West at 5 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
It didn't rain all day, but the wind did blow pretty much of the day. : ( The rain was very spotty and it never did rain very hard. The wind however blew pretty hard until the evening hours when it finally died down some. Jim did take the garbage down to the dumpster in the middle of the afternoon, but other than that, stayed inside and watched the NASCAR race on TV and took a little nap.
Linda watched the race some too, but spent most of the afternoon working with her Family Tree Maker program.
We'll be staying here for one more day. When we arrived, Jim paid for 3 nights so that means we'll leave here tomorrow.
From here, I think we're heading for Quartzsite, AZ. Don't know for sure, but I think Jim and Linda are planning on doing a little boon-docking. I know they've been there before, but I've never just "parked" out in the desert, so it'll be a new experience for me.
Did you know that Arizona observes Mountain Standard Time on a year round basis? The one exception is the Navajo Nation, located in the northeast corner of the state, which observes the daylight savings time change.

It Just Keeps Blowing

The wind blew hard all day again yesterday but I don't think quite as hard as the last 3 days.
Jim went over to the Cafe for breakfast in the morning and then in the early afternoon, he put some water in my fresh water tank, dumped my black and grey water tanks and checked my fluid levels to make sure I'm ready to go today.
Linda did some reading and then worked with her Family Tree program. She's finally getting most of the features figured out and is enjoying the results. : ) After Jim came in they both worked on their CG database where they keep track of all the CGs that they've stayed at and prices, features etc.
For dinner they headed back to the Road Runner Cafe. Jim had the Chicken fried steak this time and Linda had the jumbo shrimp. Again, both of them said their food was excellent.
The evening was spent finishing entering the CGs, reading and fooling around with the computers.
It's been a good stay here at the Fort Stockton RV Park. It's too bad they don't have cable TV or Satellite TV here. (Their WI-FI could use a little upgrading too). The folks running and working at this CG are supper friendly and will do their best to make your stay enjoyable. The park is well maintained and Jim and Linda think, the best in the Fort Stockton TX area.

Catching Up, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

We left the Pecan Valley RV Park near Junction about 5 minutes before yesterday morning and continued West on I-10. The 181 mile drive here to the Fort Stockton RV park in Ft. Stockton
Hmmm! 181 miles in 2 hours and 55 minutes. Made pretty good time again.
Jim and Linda have been to this park before and seem to really like it. The people running the park are supper friendly and willing to assist RVers in any way they can. It’s an old KOA and the sites are kind of narrow, but fairly long. It’s well maintained and most of the sites are pull-through. I have 50 amp electric, and full hook-ups. There are small trees between most sites, but they have no leaves at this time of the year, there’s also native plants planted between the sites, and many sites have picnic tables.
Another neat feature about this park is that they have a small café next to the office. It’s called the “Roadrunner Café” and they have limited breakfast and dinner menus. Even though the menus are limited, they have a wide variety to choose from, the meals are all “home cooked” including the excellent mashed potatoes), the portions are large and the prices are good.
For instance, Jim and Linda went over there about last night. Linda had the “Texas Best Chicken-Fried Steak” that came with mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner roll and a slice of cake for desert, Jim had the “Café Favorite Chicken Breast Tenderloins” that came with all of the same sides, both Jim and Linda had a soft drink, and the bill was less than $20.00.
Linda’s Chicken-Fried Steak was very large and Jim had 3 very large chicken tenderloins. Needless to say, they were both stuffed by the time they finished their meals. ; )
But, again, there are drawbacks to this Park. TV is very weak here. I can only get 2 English and one Hispanic channels on my TV and the data signal on the AT&T air card is almost non-existent.
We’ll be staying here for 2 nights so today, Jim and Linda want to go into Fort Stockton

Forecast = Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 80s. South winds 15 to 25 mph. Gusts 30 to 40 mph.Tuesday morning, Jim went over to the Cafe and had some great biscuits and gravy that came with sausage and scrambled eggs. It was too early for Linda, so she stayed here.
About 11:00 or so,, they took CLT and headed into town to find a station where I could get into easily for a drink and to see what Ft Stockton was like.
They found a station about 3 miles west on I-10, and then drove around. Both Jim and Linda decided that there wasn't much in town that they wanted to see or do, so by about noon, they were back here at the park.
The rest of the day was spent inside of me with the winds howling outside at 20 to 30 mph with 40 or more MPH gusts!!!
Jim doesn't like wind much, so he had no desire to be outside.
Yesterday, Tuesday, 3/6/2012, Jim checked the TV and the Internet and both said that the wind was going to continue to blow even harder that it had the past 2 days. So . . . . . . being that we're not on a tight schedule, Jim went to the office when it opened and signed me up for 2 more days! : )
After he came back, he helped Linda get all their tax information packaged up and then they went to the Post Office and mailed it to their tax lady.
Then, because it was again very windy, the rest of the day was again spent inside. : ( Both of them did get some computer work done during the afternoon though, so the day wasn't wasted.
Today, it's supposed to be real windy again with gusts over 40 mph, so I doubt if much will be happening. Even though he doesn't like the wind, I'm sure he'll go out and check my fluid levels and tires to make sure I'm ready to leave tomorrow morning.
You know, I almost forgot!! The other day the phone rang and it was Louise, (Of Paul and Louise, who manage the CG up in Rantoul, IL). She and Paul had been in San Antonio while we were in Borne and if they had know that we were so close together, could have gotten together for dinner or something. : ( Also, while she was talking to Jim, she asked him if he'd be interested in parking me in site #23 when we came to Rantoul this year?
Well, Yeah!!!! Site 23 just happens to be one of the best sites in the park, but it has been occupied these last years by Jerry and Mary and their 5th wheel. This year they will not be using the site though, so Louise offered it to me!!!! : )
Louise said that it would be waiting for me when we get back there in July! ; )

Not As Cold

It didn't get as cold last night as forecasted. I guess that's good, but now they're forecasting a cloudy day with a 70% chance of rain with 20 to 25 mph winds overnight, tonight. : (
I'm not sure that either Jim or Linda went out at all yesterday. They both played around with the computers, (Jim with trip plans and surfing the Internet, and Linda with her Family Tree Maker program), watched some TV, read some and took naps. Everyone that was out and about, were wearing heavy coats and hats and those that weren't, looked like they were freezing. : O
Hopefully the cold weather is about over and the temperatures can get somewhat back to normal.
No real plans for today. I know Linda has a load of laundry to do, Jim wants to get my water hooked back up and they both want to get some shopping done. But . . . . . we'll have to wait to see what the weather is going to do and how everyone is feeling.

Florida to Alabama and The Rainbow Plantation.

Forecast = Mostly sunny in the morning becoming mostly cloudy. Highs around 60. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph becoming 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
Randy and Terry came over about 9:00 yesterday morning. They were heading out to do some shopping and wanted to say good-bye. After h and h, (hugs and handshakes), they left and Jim and Linda continued getting me ready to travel.
Jim and Linda both said that they really enjoyed their time with Randy and Terry and are looking forward to seeing them again sometime soon. : )
By 9:45, CLT was hooked to the back of me, we were pulling out of the park and heading back to I-10.
Once on 10 we continued West. There were a couple construction areas along the way, but nothing major and before I knew it, we were crossing into Alabama. We stayed on 10 until we came to Rt.59, where we turned south and followed it down here to Summerdale. Then, we turned west and took county road 28 to the Rainbow Plantation.
It was 12:30 when we pulled up to the office, so yesterday, we traveled 150 miles in 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Now, I had never been to this park before, but as soon as we pulled in, I could see that it was almost, if not completely, full!!! Besides that, Jim had read someones blog in the morning and they had stated that the Plantation only had 3 sites available on the day before!!!
I just knew that there weren't going to be any sites available!!! : (
Well, we had to wait a little while to find out if there were any sites available as the office was closed for noon, but when they reopened it, Jim went in, and found out that they had 2 sites available and the one I was getting even had 50 amp service!!!! : )
So, Jim drove me around to Teal Avenue and backed me into site # 16. It's a nice site with shade trees on both sides, it has full hook-ups and is fairly level.
I still don't know exactly how long we'll be staying here, but however long it is, I'll be nice and comfy. ; )
A little before 4:00, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the clubhouse for "social hour". At "social hour", people who have just come into the park, (like Jim and Linda), are introduced and everyone is informed about the activities that will be happening in the park in the near future.
After the meeting was over and Jim and Linda had talked to some people, they came back here, had tacos for dinner and then watch TV and played with the computers until bedtime.

Kind Of Blah and Working With The New Program

Jim didn't seem to be able to get in gear yesterday. I don't think he felt really bad, just kind of "blah."
So, he really didn't do anything except fool around with the computer, read, talk to Denny and Dave for awhile when they stopped by, take a nap, and then go to "happy hour" over at Gordy's.
Meanwhile, Linda spent much of the day working with her new Family Tree Maker program and figuring out the way the different parts of it work. She's slowly starting to get data entered into the program and says that she's really enjoying working with it.

A Little Jury-Rigging and Denny And Bev Arrive

Forecast = Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 70s near the coast and in the mid 70s inland. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph.
Since we've arrived here at Southern Aire, Jim hasn't been able to get my TV antenna booster to work, so he got out his multimeter and discovered that there was no electricity going to the switch that turns it on. He checked all the fuses and they all tested good, so yesterday morning he jury-rigged a wire going to the switch. It's now working and my TV is getting a whole bunch of channels off of my antenna. : )
There's either another fuse someplace or a wire is broken, but for now, this works. He'll keep looking for another fuse, (possibly under the dash someplace), or maybe he'll find someone who has an idea of what is wrong.
A little after noon yesterday, Jim took his bike and rode over to the site where Denny and Bev are parked when they come to Southern Aire. To Jim's surprise they were already here and Denny had their Winnebago Brave mostly set up. Now, everyone is here except Gordy's wife, Dorthy. : )
After talking for awhile to get caught up about their trip down here from Illinois and saying "Hi" to Bev, Jim came back here and took his nap.
Then, about 3:30 there was a knock at my door. It was Denny and he was here to say "Hi" to Linda and to talk some more. Then at 4:00 he and Jim both headed over to Gordy's for "happy hour".
Oh, I almost forgot!!!! Jim also installed that new "Family Tree Maker" program for Linda yesterday morning. Now, she has to learn how to use the program to enter all the family data that she has obtained throughout the years. She worked on it for quite awhile yesterday and she's getting it, but it'll take some time to figure everything out.
The evening was spent reading, watching the Pro-bowl and working on the computer.

A Little Surprise and My New Filter Is Here

After spending some time working on the computer, he got on the phone and called the Deland Truck Center to find out if that new engine air filter for me had come in. Well, Dennis, the parts manager said that it had come in and that Jim could come and pick it up anytime.
So, after lunch, Jim took CLT and headed over there. But, on the way, he stopped by an Office Max store to check on something he had been researching for quite awhile on the Internet.
It was a surprise but I guess I can tell you what it is now, because Jim has already given it to Linda.
It's a new "Family Tree Maker" program.
You see, Linda has become very frustrated with the old one she had been using. You may not remember, but the old one is a shareware program that is no longer being supported. Greg, the computer guy who Jim and Linda bought the new computer from, tried his best to get the old family tree program to run under Windows 7, but it just wasn't working, the latest problem being with trying to print out information once it was entered.
So, after Jim and Linda had talked about it, it was decided that the only way to really have access to the information was to get a new program and re-enter all the information. : ( Now, this means a lot of work for Linda, but she enjoys doing family tree stuff, so it may not feel so much like work at all. : )
After doing the research and looking at reviews, Jim determined that this new program had the most features that Linda would like and was one of the easiest to use, so he thought he'd surprise her and buy it here before we started traveling.
The new program hasn't been installed yet, but she's been reading the book that came with it, and is excited about all the features. : )
After stopping at Office Max, Jim went to the truck place and picked up the new air filter. I think he's going to install it today.
Laura stopped by for awhile again yesterday. She has to work all weekend, and knows that we'll be leaving on Monday, so she's been stopping by whenever she gets a little time.

After spending some time working on the computer, he got on the phone and called the Deland Truck Center to find out if that new engine air filter for me had come in. Well, Dennis, the parts manager said that it had come in and that Jim could come and pick it up anytime.
So, after lunch, Jim took CLT and headed over there. But, on the way, he stopped by an Office Max store to check on something he had been researching for quite awhile on the Internet.
It was a surprise but I guess I can tell you what it is now, because Jim has already given it to Linda.
It's a new "Family Tree Maker" program.
You see, Linda has become very frustrated with the old one she had been using. You may not remember, but the old one is a shareware program that is no longer being supported. Greg, the computer guy who Jim and Linda bought the new computer from, tried his best to get the old family tree program to run under Windows 7, but it just wasn't working, the latest problem being with trying to print out information once it was entered.
So, after Jim and Linda had talked about it, it was decided that the only way to really have access to the information was to get a new program and re-enter all the information. : ( Now, this means a lot of work for Linda, but she enjoys doing family tree stuff, so it may not feel so much like work at all. : )

Which One Did You Forget?

OK, you've changed the clock in the living room, the microwave, the one in the bedroom, your wrist watch, the computer clock, and the one in the radio.
Now, I'll bet there's at least one more that you've forgotten about. Stop and think, is there another one someplace?
For Jim it's usually the one on CLT's radio. Sometimes it takes a month or more before he realizes that it hasn't been changed yet!! ; )
Of course for full-timers that travel across the country, from time zone to time zone, it gets even more difficult. Have you ever crossed into a different time zone on the same day that the time changed for daylight saving time?
Now, that can get really confusing!!! If you're going the right direction, you may not even have to change your clocks!! : ) Or if you're going the other way, you may have to change them as much as 2 hours!!! : (
Mid-afternoon yesterday, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed to Joe and Nancy's. Nothing special going on, just more visiting and catching up. And, I suspect that they'll be going back today. ; )

Thanks, A Very Nice Visit and One More Day?

First of all, Jim wants to thank everyone who wished him a happy birthday yesterday. All the wishes helped make yesterday very special. ; )
Jeff, (Jim's Son), called from Oregon yesterday morning and they talked for quite a while. He's going through some changes with his work out there and besides calling Jim to wish him a happy birthday, Jim says he thinks he wanted to talk about the job thing too.
Judy was able to make it down here yesterday morning. She pulled up in front of me a little after 11:00. Once she came inside and relaxed a little, Jim gave her the "tour" and I think she liked me a lot, cause she gave me some very nice compliments. : )
After talking for awhile, it was decided that they would all head over to Pizza Hut for lunch. After a lot of talking and a little eating, Judy left from there to head back to her MH and Jim and Linda came back here. (She had to get back because she had left Emma in the MH while she came down here). It wasn't a long visit, but a very enjoyable one, and I got to meet Judy!
I really liked her and am looking forward to meeting her MH one of these days. : )
While they were at the Pizza Hut, Greg called and said he could come here to the CG at about 2:30 to install that extension cable on the little wi-fi antenna and answer any other questions that Jim and Linda may have about the new computer or the operating system.
Jim and Linda had made a list of things to ask him so after he came and installed the cable, he answered their questions and made some changes that affected how a few of the programs operated.
The rest of the day was spent inside of me because it was raining.
I'm pretty much ready to travel, but I'm not sure we'll be leaving here today. Roland, (Jim and Linda's friend who lives in North Carolina and who we were going to stop and see on the way out to the East Coast), called to wish Jim a happy birthday and also tell Jim and Linda that he and Louise were not going to be there by the time we got to their area. : ( They work with the "Nomads" organization and have signed up to do some volunteer work at that time.
I was looking forward to seeing Big Herb again and I know Jim and Linda were looking forward to seeing Roland and Louise again, but it's just not going to happen on this trip. : (
Anyway, because we won't be stopping at their house on the way, we'll have some extra time. So, if Jim can change an appointment that he made at a place down in Evansville, IN., we'll stay here one more day and I won't have to travel in this rain we're having and that is supposed to last most of the day, (especially over in Indiana).
He'll call them after 8:00 and then the decision will be made as to weather we'll stay here one more day or not.

The New Computer and Jim's Appointment

It was about 10:30 by the time Greg arrived with Jim and Linda's new desktop computer. The setup went pretty smoothly but there was a couple little glitches. You see, the way the desk is set up, (being fastened to the wall), you have to run the cables around the end to get them up to the monitor. Well the cable wasn't long enough, so he had to get a longer one out of his car.
This new computer also has a wi-fi card with an antenna attached to it. The cable going to the antenna is only about 3 feet long so it's too short to allow the antenna to be up in front of the window, where the reception should be much better. Greg didn't have an extension for this cable, so as of right now, the antenna is sitting under the desk, until he brings one.
The computer seems to be working well. It's picking up the CG's wi-fi, Linda can use her Family Tree program, and in fact, has already started entering information that she got from Jim's cousin Adeline, when they visited her a few weeks ago. : ) Of course the new computer has Window's 7 installed on it and Jim is having a little trouble getting it to do what he wants, but I'm sure he'll get it figured out.
This morning, Jim has an appointment to go back to the eye doctor. I can tell he's not looking forward to going, but like some of my followers have said, "the eyes are nothing to fool around with".
If everything goes well, he and Linda should be back here before noon.
