After backing me and CLT straight back, Jim was able to make the swing out of the site and onto the road. I ended up going across the corner of the patio and across the grass, but at least Jim didn't have to unhook CLT. : )
It was 10:00 when we pulled out of the CG and headed back to I-40. Once on 40 we followed it Southeast to Asheville where we turned South on I-26, which took us down to Columbus, where we turned East on US 74. 74 brought us over to Forest City and to Roland and Louise's house.
We did have one little glitch. When we got to Forest City, we turned off of US 74 at the wrong exit and ended up going right through "Beautiful Downtown Forest City"!!! If we had turned off at the right exit, we would have missed the downtown area with all the stores and traffic, but it wasn't too bad and by 11:35 we were pulling into Roland's driveway. : )
Even with our wrong turn, it only took us 1 hour and 35 minutes to travel the 85 miles over here.
Roland must have seen us coming because before I was completely stopped in the driveway, he was coming out of the house to greet us. After h and h, (hugs and handshakes), Jim unhooked CLT from the back of me and with Roland's help and a large field next to the driveway, Jim got me turned around and backed right up to Big Herb's RV Port.
When Roland built this house with a RV port for Big Herb, he planned on having a place for RVing friends to park their RV when they came to visit. So, he put in both 30 amp and 50 amp outlets, a water faucet on the side of the building and a sewer connection so that the RVs tanks could be dumped.
In other words, full hook-ups!!!!
Jim and Roland and Linda and Louise have already done a lot of visiting. We went down to Frostproof, FL to see them back in February but a lot has happened to both couples since then, so there's a lot to catch up on. I'm sure that our time here will go really fast.
Jim didn't take any photos yesterday, but I'm sure he will in the next few days. If I can, (slow air card connection here), I'll post them right away.
Did you know that what is now Forest City began as a crossroads on the Shelby-Rutherfordton and Spartanburg-Lincolnton Roads? Originally, the town was incorporated as Burnt Chimney in 1877. A replica near the site of the original chimney adorns the public square today. The "chimney" was the remains of the McArthur home that marked the crossroads.

Jim's Eye Scan, A New Chair and Cooler Weather
Rantoul, IL.

Forecast =Mostly cloudy in the morning, then clear. High of 79F. Winds less than 5 mph.
It's been real slow here at Prairie Pines. Just a few RVs coming in and then leaving right away the next morning. Normally on Fridays there would be a bunch of RVs coming in for the weekend, but yesterday only a couple came in.
I guess that's normal for this time of the year though.
Early yesterday morning, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed down to Champaign, IL. Jim's eye doctor wanted him to get a scan done of his eyes to compare to how they were doing a year ago, so yesterday was the day to get that accomplished. The place where he had the scan done, (actually Linda's retinologist), will send the results to Jim's doctor.
Hopefully the results are the same or maybe even improved.
Being that they didn't even have to dilate Jim's eyes for the scan, when he was done, he and Linda headed over to Ashley Furniture to check out chairs to use at my desk. You see, the chair that they were using was a dining room chair that they had bought in Sioux Falls, SD when we were there last year, and it just wasn't working out. So, they decided that they'd look for something different.
Well, they found a regular "desk chair" that they liked, and, because the only one they had in stock was the floor model, Jim and Linda were able to purchase it at a reduced price!!! : )
This thing is pretty spiffy!!!! It swivels, goes up and down, and even leans back!!!! Even at the reduced price, it was kind of expensive, but as much as that chair will get used, I think it was worth it. ; )
Now, after Jim and Linda came back here and got the new chair inside of me, (not an easy task), : O the question came up, what do they do with the old chair? It's still good and is very nice looking, so it would be a shame to just throw it away, but as you RVers know, there just isn't room inside of an RV for an extra chair!!! : (
Well, Jim went over and talked to Paul and he said that he may know someone who could use it, so Jim carried it over to the office area and put it into the storage shed for now.
Hopefully Paul or Louise will be able to find a new home for the chair.
Oh!! Thanks for reminding me, CLT..
After they went to Ashley's, Jim and Linda stopped by the Urbana Gardens Restaurant in Urbana to get something to eat. Being that it was after 10:00 by that time, they had breakfast for "brunch". : ) Both Jim and Linda said that the food and service was very good as usual.
The weather here is much cooler than it has been. A cold front came through the area Thursday night and dropped the temperature down about 15 to 20 degrees. It's supposed to stay cool for the next day or so before the temperatures start climbing up again. Then, they're forecasting another cold front coming through Monday night which is supposed to bring the overnight lows down into the lower 40's!!!!!
A Point to Ponder : If you work too hard to be clever, you won't have enough energy to be smart.
Wait!!! Don't go yet, there's more!!! I just found out that Louise decided to use the old chair in the office!!
Good, I'm glad the chair found a home so soon. I got kind of attached to it after carrying it around with me for over a year. : )

Nice Weather, Latest Plans and CG Entertainment
Rantoul, IL.

Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 72F. Winds from the WNW at 10 to 15 mph.
The weather was really nice here in Rantoul yesterday. Lots of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70's. It was a little breezy though, but not enough to bother most folks. The CG is just about full and if there would me more kids running around and playing, you'd think that this weekend was the Holiday weekend.
After everyone leaves today, it should get really quiet here at the Prairie Pines CG. Louise doesn't have any more clubs or organizations booked for the rest of the year, and probably the only campers that will stop by will be folks traveling on I-57 or I-74.
We'll be here for a couple more weeks yet. As it looks right now, we'll be leaving here on the 24th of September to start heading East towards North Carolina and Virginia to see Jim and Linda's kids and grand-kids.
If everything go according to plan, we'll be making stops to see people in Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina before getting to Mike and Gina's in Apex, NC and to Joe and Nancy's in Virginia Beach, VA.
Of course, most of you regular readers know that all of Jim's plans are written in pencil and he has that big eraser!! ; )
So, I guess that's it for today. It'll be fun watching all the folks pack up to leave the CG. Some are quite experienced RVers and others are not, so the way they go about packing up and moving out of their sites can be quite entertaining. : )

Happy Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!!!!
It rained, lightly, off and on all day yesterday. Every once in awhile the sun would even come out, but then in a few minutes, it was lightly raining again. : ( There were a few people out and about between showers here at the park, but most just stayed inside of their RVs.
Today is supposed to be a little better. I hope so, for those who were brave enough to go camping this weekend.
Besides being Labor Day, this is one of Jim and Linda's favorite holidays. You see, after today, most folks will put their campers away for the year, the kids will be back in school, and the campgrounds and RV parks will be much less crowded, even on the weekends!!! : )
It will be this way until Memorial Day next year, except in the "Snowbird" areas where campgrounds and RV parks will start filling up with "Old Fogy's", like Jim and Linda, in October and November. ; )
So, , , , , I hope all of you have a great Holiday!!! If you're traveling please be careful out there on the highways.

A Quiet Weekend, Linda And Jim and Rain

Forecast = Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...Then mostly sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s. North winds 5 to 10 mph.
It has been pretty quiet here a Prairie Pines this weekend. A few RVs came in, but they're either gone already or will be leaving today. Linda has been doing laundry and doing more research for her Family Tree Maker program.
Jim has been working on our trip plan from here to the East Coast. He's been making some changes to it and now it sounds like we'll be staying her a few days longer than originally planned.
Oh! Debbie, one of my followers, made a comment on this blog the other day and informed me that there is another full-timing couple named Linda and Jim staying here at this park. Jim talked to Louise and he is pretty sure they're on a site over on the other side of the CG. Jim found their blog in the Internet and it sounds like they are planning on being here for a couple of weeks, so maybe Jim and Linda can get together with Linda and Jim and swap RVing stories. ; )
We had pretty heavy rain go through this area yesterday. Jim didn't have his rain gauge out, but I'm guessing that we had more than an inch of rain. That's OK though, this area is still way short on rainfall for the year. It's real muggy outside this morning, but they're forecasting drier weather for the next few days.
Today, Jim and Linda need to pick up Jim's other prescription at Walgreen's, check on mail at the post office and mail a couple birthday cards. Other than that, I don't think there's any other plans.

Photos From The Reunion and Other Stuff

Here at the Prairie Pines Campground in Rantoul, I have wi-fi and it's pretty fast, so today, I'm going to bore some of you with photos from the reunion that I wasn't able to post earlier because of slow Internet connections. As always, you can click on the photo to enlarge it to see details or the text that Jim has added.

Well, I hope I didn't bore you too much, but I really wanted to post these photos so that those who are interested, could see them.
Jim went out an hooked me up to the sewer yesterday morning because Linda said that she wanted to get started on the laundry. After that, he went over and talked to Louise for awhile before coming back here.
While he was gone, Linda put in a load of laundry and worked on justifying 2 bank statements. : (
Later, Jim brought some stuff in from my basement compartments for Linda and then walked down to the other end of the park and talked to a man named Ron for awhile. Jim had met Ron a few years ago but didn't really get to know him until last year when I was parked in the site right next to them when Jim and Linda first brought me here.
Ron and his wife Marilyn, work down in Texas during the winter and then come up here to visit family and friends during the summer. They'll be here until about the middle of September.
For awhile it looked like we were going to get some rain yesterday afternoon, but it just fizzled out and all we got were a few drops. (The same thing happened in the evening.) : ( The weather people on TV are still forecasting a chance of rain, but I wouldn't bet a quart of diesel that any will come.
Not much planned today. There's a letter that needs to be mailed and Jim wants to go to the new Ace Hardware Store here in Rantoul, to get a new filter for my Air Conditioner, but other than that, nothing.
Now, I am betting that quart of diesel that he'll find a lot to look at and spend quite a bit of time at Ace. ; )

Laundry and Just Walked Away

Forecast = Numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms. Highs 80 to 85. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
As soon as Linda got up yesterday morning, she started doing laundry. There was quite a bit to do and being that we won't have a sewer hook-up at our next CG, she wanted to get caught up. She also has been getting some food ready to take to the reunion and has cooked some of it and put it in the freezer to be brought back out, probably Monday or Tuesday.
A little after lunch, a fifth wheel pulled up in the site next to me, and as Jim was outside, said "hi" and talked to the couple about their site for a minute.
At that time, he didn't think they were very friendly, but they were busy getting set up.
Later, Jim was outside again, and the man asked Jim if we were from South Dakota? Jim told him that we were full-timing and used SD as our state of residence.
The man looked at Jim and told him that he and his wife were full-timers also and that Texas and South Dakota were, "No d**n good"!!!
Huh???? Where did that come from????
He went on to say that when he registered his trailer and truck in Texas, the price for the plates was so high that he moved back to Wisconsin for his state of residency.
When Jim asked him about taxes and insurance cost in WI. compared to Texas, the man said that he didn't mind paying taxes, as it helped the state.
Huh??????
Jim sensed that this was going to be a no-win situation, so he just walked away!!
This man did not seem happy at all. He evidently has a problem of some sort, but who knows what the real problem is? I don't know how long this couple have been full-timing, but I can't imagine them being out on the road for too long, as they won't have any friends with an attitude like that!!!
I'm glad we're leaving here this morning. I wouldn't want to spend much time parked next to them.
Later in the afternoon, Jim dumped my tanks and put all the hoses away. Then, he hooked CLT back to to me. They were forecasting possible rain showers for this morning, and he didn't want to have to do a bunch of stuff if it was raining.
I think this next CG that we will be staying at has wi-fi, but I'm not sure. It's also quite a way from any large cities, so I don't know if I'll be able to hook up with the air card either. So, if I don't post for awhile, keep checking, I'll post whenever I can.

Later in the afternoon, Jim dumped my tanks and put all the hoses away. Then, he hooked CLT back to to me. They were forecasting possible rain showers for this morning, and he didn't want to have to do a bunch of stuff if it was raining.
I think this next CG that we will be staying at has wi-fi, but I'm not sure. It's also quite a way from any large cities, so I don't know if I'll be able to hook up with the air card either. So, if I don't post for awhile, keep checking, I'll post whenever I can.

Michigan To Wisconsin
This post was written Friday, 7-13-2012 and will be posted to Blogger when I have an Internet connection.

Forecast = High temp 87 deg. isolated T-Storms possible in the afternoon.
After some jockeying around in the Campground to get me pointed in the right direction, Jim hooked CLT to the back of me and by 9:45 we were pulling out of the Sunset Bay CG and heading back down US 41 to Haughton, where we picked up Rt.26. We stayed on 26 until we came to US 45. Following 45 South brought us down into Wisconsin
This park is only about 2 miles into Wisconsin
Jim and Linda had been to this park 2 years ago, so they knew the park. Many of the RVs in this park are seasonal folks that come back here every year, but they have some sites for travelers. When we arrived here at there were 4 long pull-through sites available and a few back-in sites. (All full hook-up and I think all have 50 amp electric).
We’re staying here for 2 nights so that Linda can get caught up on some laundry before heading to New Lisbon, where again, I’ll only have 30 amp electric and water hook-ups. : (
This is a fairly nice park. Most of the people here seem to be very friendly, the park is fairly well maintained, there’s lots of trees, (which Jim and Linda like), the sites are quite large and the interior roads in the CG, although gravel, are smooth and well maintained.
I could stay here for awhile. : )
Jim is planning on taking some photos of the park today, and I’ll try to include them as soon as I have an Internet connection.

Getting Ready To Travel Again

Forecast = Overcast with rain, then rain showers in the afternoon. Fog early. High of 55F. Winds from the SSW at 5 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 80%.
Not much to report on today, so this will probably be a short post.
It's hard to believe that we've been here for almost a week already, but we're leaving here today to continue our wanderings up into Oregon, so both Jim and Linda worked on getting me ready to travel yesterday. Jim went over and thanked our neighbor for the crabs, did the normal pre-travel checks and chores on me and cooked a couple of burgers out on the grill for dinner.
While he was doing that, Linda started putting stuff away inside of me, and put together the rest of the dinner inside of me.
Of course, they both read some, watched TV and took naps during the afternoon. ; )
The plan for today is to head up into Oregon a ways. Jim's been researching RV Parks along US101 and has suitable parks picked out all along the route. Depending on where we end up for the nights, I may or may not have Internet connection, so again, don't worry if you don't hear from me. We'll be moving along slowly as we're not scheduled to get to Portland until a week from Tomorrow.
That slow pace will also allow us to stay in one place for a few days if we run into some nasty weather. (Which is always a possibility along the Oregon coast at this time of the year.)

More About The Dos Reis Park
Lathrop, CA.

While Linda was doing some laundry, Jim was out and about taking some photos and talking to some nice RVers who were staying here at the Dos Reis Regional Park. This 1st photo is what you see as you look off to the left as you enter the CG section. The 5th wheel that you see in the photo belongs to a full-timing couple who are heading up to the Escapees Park in Sutherlin, OR. It's on a site that is probably one of the longest sites in the park.
This next photo was taken from my site looking towards the berm that separates the CG from the San Joaquin River. The berm is not really necessary right now, but during certain times of the year, it stops the CG from flooding.

This park gets pretty busy on the weekends, but during the week, there's always been sites available when Jim and Linda have been here.
Like I said, this is a neat little park that is far enough from the Interstate so you don't hear any traffic noise. It has a nice "feel" to it and if we're ever back in this area, I hope Jim and Linda bring me back here again.
Today, we'll leave here and continue heading towards Oregon. We'll continue NNW on I-5 for a ways and then head West, towards the coast. Jim's got another RV Park spotted on the way out to the coast that looks really interesting.
If it's as nice as it sounds, we'll stay there for 2 or 3 nights.

Don't Know What To Write About

Forecast = Clear in the morning, then partly cloudy. High of 77F. Winds from the South at 5 to 10 mph shifting to the NW in the afternoon.
Today is one of those days when I really don't know what I'm going to write about. Probably, I should just skip posting, but if things happen as in the past, as I start writing, things just come to mind.
Jim didn't sleep well Sunday night, so he was tired all day yesterday, that is until he took an almost 2 hour nap. : ) After that it seemed like he was doing better cause he went outside for awhile.
Maybe it's because we're in the "city", but for the most part, the people who are here don't seem to be real friendly. Oh, they'll say "Hi" or wave when Jim says something or waves to them, but most of them seem to be on their guard.
I've noticed this before, when we're close or in a highly populated area. : (
My steps didn't get checked out yesterday, but Jim seems to be determined to check them out today. He'll need to raise my front end a little with my jacks so that he can get under me better to see. Hopefully he'll be able to find the problem and won't have to call the repair guy.
CLT took Jim and Linda to a Denny's restaurant near here last night for dinner. Jim had the pot roast and wasn't very impressed. He said that it was OK, but not the best he's had. Linda had the chicken fried steak and said it was good.
After they came back here, they watched TV until the early (10:00 pm), news was over, and then went to bed.
Oh, Jim did work on the trip plan from here to Oregon. He's now working on an alternative route that we could take if the weather doesn't co-operate out on the coast.
I guess that's about it for today. Maybe I'll have something more interesting to write about tomorrow morning. ; )

Time To Wander Further West
Tecopa, CA.

Well, today we leave Tecopa and continue wandering West. Yesterday, Jim checked all my fluid levels, dumped my tanks and put some fresh water into my fresh water tank. He also checked and filled all my and CLT's tires, since that hadn't been done for quite awhile. and then just kind of kicked back for the rest of the day. ; )
While he was doing that, Linda was busy inside of me, working on her family tree, putting stuff away that had been gotten out during our week-long stay here, and then she baked a desert for dinner. : )
This morning we'll be heading out of here, going first back down to Baker and then heading West from there. I don't know how far we'll get, but Jim has some RV Parks located along the way, and we could pull into any one of them.
It's been a great stay here at Petersen's Tecopa Palm RV Park. The owners and the people staying here are so nice, The park is well maintained, and it's close enough to Death Valley, so you can use it for a base camp. The only drawbacks are that there's no antenna TV signal here, (there is a TV hooked to satellite in the Club House), and no cell phone service, either with Verizon or AT&T.
I don't know if we'll ever get back to this area again, but you can be assured, we'll come here to this park if we do. : )
Oh, and we had kind of neat sunset here at the park. I just thought I'd share it with you. ; )

S L O W C O N E C T I O N

I have no idea if I'll be able to post this or not. I've got such a S L O W C O N E C T I O N! ! ! !
But, I'm going to try. : )
Wow!!!! It's chilly this morning!!!! Only 27 degrees as I write this and it will probably drop another degree or so before the sun comes up!!!

We left the Alamo Fiesta RV Resort in Boerne about 10:35 yesterday morning and got back on I-10, Westbound. It was quite windy with gusts over 30 MPH. so I was glad we didn't have a long day scheduled.
From Boerne west, it gets pretty hilly and I finally got to show Jim and Linda what my engine could do. Yeah, I know, it's not that hilly in that part of Texas, but it was enough that they could see that I have plenty of power to keep up with traffic. ; )
It only took us an hour and 40 minutes to travel the 98 miles here to the Pecan Valley RV Park, so I guess I wasn't dragging my mudflaps too much. ; )
This is a neat little park. It's well off of the expressway so there's hardly any road noise, there's only about a dozen sites, (so you need to call ahead like Jim did), all the sites are full hook-up, (with 50 amp at a few of them), most of the sites are pull-through, all sites are paved and the Park is very well maintained. There's lots of trees but none of them have leaves on them now. However, they should provide some shade from the sun during the hot Texas summer.
The man who greeted us when we pulled into the park was very pleasant and told Jim exactly how to find my site, and already, Jim has found out that many of the other RVers here are very friendly.
I guess you can tell, I like this park.
OK, I can hear you saying, "There's got to be some drawbacks to the park".
Well, yes there is. First of all, there's no TV stations in this area, so you can't get any TV on an antenna. My AT&T connection is very slow, and I've heard that the other carrier's signals are not any better. There's absolutely nothing to do here at the park, and probably not much in the area either, and, I don't think there's any shopping anywhere near by.
But, , , , , Oh, the peace and quiet!!!!!!!! ; )
We'll be leaving here this morning and heading a little further down the road. Should have faster Internet at our next stop.

Full Moon

I wasn't paying much attention to the moon, but after CLT came back from taking Jim and Linda, first to Wally World and then to the Mall, that I started thinking about the phase of the moon.
You see, CLT said that some of the people driving their cars were really doing some stupid things. He said that people were pulling out in front of others, making turns out of the improper lanes, driving too fast and in general driving like they weren't paying attention at all!!
Now, if you ask the "experts", they say that the moon doesn't have a thing to do with how people act.
Well, I disagree!!!!
I have personally seen a difference of how people drive and do things when there is a full moon. Jim says that when he worked in a retail store many years ago, you didn't have to have a calendar or look at the moon to know when there was a full moon.
You just had to deal with crazy acting customers!!
I once knew a lady who worked in a mental hospital and she said that the patients there really had problems when the moon was full.
Now, maybe the "experts" don't agree, but from experience and listening to what other RVs and their owners say, I think they may want to do another study on the subject.
How about it? Can you tell when there's a full moon without looking at the calendar or looking up at the moon?
Did you know that the Farmers' Almanac defined blue moon as an extra full moon that occurred in a season; one season was normally three full moons. If a season had four full moons, then the third full moon was named a blue moon.

Looking Forward

It seems that almost all of the people who write the blogs that I follow are talking about what has happened this past year. Well, I'd like to be different and talk about what I'm looking forward to in this New Year.
Oh yeah, I could talk about sitting in an RV lot for almost 1/2 of the year and then being purchased by Jim and Linda, but if you want to hear about what I've been doing since being purchased, all you have to do is to go back in my posts on this blog and read about it.
Instead of looking back, I prefer to look ahead and think about what may be happening to me this year.
This should be a very exciting year for me. Jim has a trip pretty well planned out for a trip out to Oregon and then back to Illinois. So far, our travels have been rushed. We were in a hurry to come down here to Florida to get some repair work done on me. Then we rushed up to NC, VA, and back down here so that we could get to DeBary by Thanksgiving.
When we leave here in about 3 weeks, our travels should be much more relaxed. First, the plan is to go and see Jim and Linda's friends, Roland and Louise, in Frostproof, FL. After a short visit with them, we'll head to Thonotosassa, FL. to join up with the "Illinois Bunch" ( Deny and Bev, Dave and Dee Dee, and Gordy and Dorthy).
After spending a week with them, we'll start wandering towards the West Coast.
Along the way, the plan is to stop by and see some of Jim and Linda's friends who are staying at RV parks on or near our route, see some sights, and slowly work our way to California.
Jim has always wanted to go to Death Valley but one thing or another always gotten in the way, so on this trip we're planning on making that a major stop. After Death Valley and as the weather warms, we'll slowly wander our way up to Portland, (hopefully along the California/Oregon Coast), to see Jeff and Heather, (Jim's son and his lady), who Jim and Linda haven't seen since 2008.
Being that Jim and Linda so seldom get to see Jeff and Heather, we'll probably stay in Portland for at least 3 weeks before starting to wander back to the Mid-West, getting back there sometime in July.
Now, this whole trip is going to be a learning experience for me. You see, my previous owner was always in a hurry to get from point A to point B and we'd cover a lot of miles each day. From what I understand, Jim and Linda don't travel that way. Instead, they don't get on the road until about 10:00, only travel about 150 miles a day and then every few days, stay for a couple of nights if the CG/RV Park is nice.
A much slower pace than I'm used to.
I also can't ever remember being all the way to the West Coast, so that will be a new experience for me. So, I'm really looking forward to this year. : ) It should be fun and exciting and I hope you'll enjoy reading all about our wanderings.
Oh, another thing. There may be a big change in this blog. Right now, I'm experimenting with a different Blog Host and the jury is still out whether I switch or not. I would imagine that in a week or so I'll know what I'm going to do, and I'll make sure that you're the first to know.

Jim has always wanted to go to Death Valley but one thing or another always gotten in the way, so on this trip we're planning on making that a major stop. After Death Valley and as the weather warms, we'll slowly wander our way up to Portland, (hopefully along the California/Oregon Coast), to see Jeff and Heather, (Jim's son and his lady), who Jim and Linda haven't seen since 2008.
Being that Jim and Linda so seldom get to see Jeff and Heather, we'll probably stay in Portland for at least 3 weeks before starting to wander back to the Mid-West, getting back there sometime in July.
Now, this whole trip is going to be a learning experience for me. You see, my previous owner was always in a hurry to get from point A to point B and we'd cover a lot of miles each day. From what I understand, Jim and Linda don't travel that way. Instead, they don't get on the road until about 10:00, only travel about 150 miles a day and then every few days, stay for a couple of nights if the CG/RV Park is nice.
A much slower pace than I'm used to.
I also can't ever remember being all the way to the West Coast, so that will be a new experience for me. So, I'm really looking forward to this year. : ) It should be fun and exciting and I hope you'll enjoy reading all about our wanderings.
Oh, another thing. There may be a big change in this blog. Right now, I'm experimenting with a different Blog Host and the jury is still out whether I switch or not. I would imagine that in a week or so I'll know what I'm going to do, and I'll make sure that you're the first to know.

Slow Days, Decorating and Jenny and Don

It's been a slow couple of days here in DeBary. Laura stopped by for awhile Thursday, Linda has been doing more laundry, Jim has been working on trip plans, talking to the neighbors and doing a little maintenance on me.
They have decorated the grass "island" area in the middle of the main park road. It looks pretty nice and I'm hoping that Jim will go out and take some daytime and nighttime photos so I can post some of them here. There's also a lot of people decorating their RVs and park models, so maybe he can get some photos of some of them too.
I think that today, Laura and Ashley are going to come and help Jim and Linda put up Christmas decorations. There's really not a whole lot to do, but from what I understand, it's become kind of a "Christmas tradition", that started quite a few years ago, and it gives them another excuse to get together. ; )
It may take them a little longer than usual because this will be the first year that they'll be decorating me and will have to figure out where everything looks the best.
It should be fun getting decorated!!! : )

Well, Don, Jenny's husband has been in the hospital lately with some heart problems and is now back in the hospital again. Jim and Linda would like you to send your thoughts and prayers their way and wish Don a speedy recovery.

Four "Ifs", A "May" And A "Might", A Great Lunch With Great Friends and A Surprise Visit

Forecast = Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then a chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s near the coast and in the lower 80s inland. Southwest winds around 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
Dan, took my furnace apart yesterday morning and found out that there were some bearings worn out and the little 12 volt motor was bad.
So, parts were ordered and "if", (and it's a big "if"), the parts come in today, (One day overnight delivery), and "if" all the parts are correct, and "if" Dan gets it put back together and "if" there aren't other unforeseen problems, my repairs "may" be completed today, and I "might" be able to leave here today and go to to DeBary in time for Thanksgiving!!! : )
Now, many things can go wrong with all of this, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it's really hard not to. I have to remember that it's a very good possibility that Jim, Linda and I will be spending the holiday right here in this parking lot. : (
A little before noon, Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the Bob Evans Restaurant to meet up with their long time RVing friends, Roland and Louise. From what I understand, they had a very nice meal and a very nice visit with them. After eating and catching up on what has been happening since they came to visit Jim, Linda and me up in Rantoul this past summer, they all came back here and visited for awhile longer!!
What a great surprise!!!! I really didn't think I'd get to see them!!!
After talking for awhile, Roland and Louise had to leave as they had another stop they wanted to make before heading back down to Frostproof where their Motor Home, ( Big Herb), is parked for the winter.
So, today, we'll see what happens. Maybe, just maybe, things will go right and tomorrow morning I'll be posting on this blog from DeBary.

Almost Didn't Post

I didn't post yesterday and almost didn't post today because there hasn't been much happening around here, and I don't have much to write about.
During the last 2 days, Jim and Linda have just been doing normal things during the day and then, in the evenings, they've been taking CLT and heading over to Mike and Gina's house for a few hours.
The weather has been really nice so Jim has been spending some time outside during the days. Yesterday, he talked to one of the neighbours for awhile and then got rid of a few boxes from my basement compartments by condensing a few items.
Meanwhile, Linda has been doing laundry working on her latest embroidery project, working on her family tree program and getting a desert or vegetable ready to take over to Mike and Gina's for dinner.
Of course they've both been able to get in a little nap during the afternoon too. ; )
Today, I expect more of the same, except that it's getting close to the time for Linda to get her prescriptions refilled, so they may go and do that. Then this evening they're heading back to Mike's for dinner again.
Like I said, nothing much happening.

SC to NC and My Home For The Next Two Weeks
Moncure, NC.

Forecast = Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
It was right at 10:00 again when we pulled out of the Bass Lake CG near Dillon yesterday morning. We got back on I-95 and took it North for just a few miles until we crossed into North Carolina where we turned off at exit #1. At exit #1, we picked up US 501 and brought it up to Aberdeen, NC, where we turned NE on US 1. 1 then brought us up to Moncure and the Dickens RV Park, where I'll be staying for the next 2 weeks.
It was just noon when we pulled into the park, so it took us almost exactly 2 hours to travel the 101 miles up here. Not too bad considering that over half of the trip was on 2 lane roads. : )
Dickens RV Park is nothing special. In fact, it's mostly gravel and there's very little grass. There's a few trees, but nothing to provide any shade in the area that I'm in and a few of the roads in the park could use some grading.
However, I do have a large, fairly level pull-through site, with full hook-ups, 50 amp electric, and it's only costing Jim and Linda $15 a night, Passport America rate!! : ) On top if that, the owner seems really friendly and laid back, most of the other RVers in the park seem to be gone during the day, and CLT says that we're only about 25 minutes from Mike and Gina's house!!
Oh, and they don't lock you out of this park at 8:00 PM like they do over at Jordan Lake SRA, where Jim and Linda have stayed at in the past.
So, like I said, this will be my home for the next 2 weeks. Like last night, Jim and Linda will be taking CLT and going to see Mike, Gina, Brenna, Savanna and Dillon during the evenings, and then I'm hoping that they can come out here to see me on the weekends so that I can get to know them.

Ranting and Alabama To Georgia

Forecast = Partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs around 90. West winds around 5 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
I don't believe it!!!!!! 4:40 AM and this idiot is warming up his RV before leaving!!! It ran for at least 15 minutes and the last few minutes were at a high idle!!!! What are these people thinking? Don't they have any consideration at all for the other people in the CG????? : {
OK! I'm done ranting!!
It was right at 10:00 again when we pulled out of the Deer Run RV Park near Troy, AL. Once back on US 231, and heading South we moved right along until we came to Dothan. Now, don't get me wrong, Dothan us probably a very nice place, but their traffic it horrible!!!
Before you ever get to the belt route that runs all the way around the city, you have many, many traffic lights to deal with. Then as you go around the city on the belt route you have many, many more, as it's not a limited access by-pass route. : (
Jim says that it's been that way for years and can't understand why they don't built a real by-pass around the city.
Once past Dothan, and heading East on US 84 we started making some pretty good time again. In fact, it didn't seem to take long at all until we were crossing into Georgia. Then, it was just another hour or so until we were going around Thomasville on US 84 by-pass.
Once back to Business 84 we turned towards town and in just a few blocks we were at the City Of Roses RV Park.
It was right at 2:20 Eastern time when we got here, so it took us, (lets see now, I have to figure this out), . . . . . . . . Got it!! 3 hours and 20 minutes to travel 187 miles.
This is not a bad park, but it sure isn't anything special. But, for $15 a night, (Passport America rate), for a full hook-up site with 50 amp electric, you can't really complain too much. ; )
Today we'll continue heading South. I don't think we'll go any long distance because we really don't have that far to go, and my appointment with the mechanic isn't until Monday. Jim says that if they have a place to park me where he can plug me in, we may go there on Saturday or Sunday so I'll be there the 1st thing Monday morning.
He'll have to call down there to see if they have a spot.
Oh, depending on where we end up today, Jim says that there are a few places where we may stay that I may not have an Internet connection. So, I you don't hear from me, hang in there, I'll get you caught up on my wanderings as soon as I can. : )
