We didn't have far to go, so Jim and Linda took their time getting ready to leave the Lakemont Ridge Home and RV Park in Frostproof yesterday morning. Things went smoothly though and by 10:05 we were pulling out of the park and heading back to US 27.
Jim thought about going up to Lake Wales and then heading West from there, but decided that the easiest way to go would be to take 27 back up to I-4 and then head SW from there. It added a few more miles, but it didn't require going through as many city areas.
Once on I-4, we headed SW to exit 10 where we turned North on County Road 579. 579 then took us up to Thonotosassa and the Southern Aire RV Resort.
It was 11:45 when we pulled up next to the office, so it took us an hour and 40 minutes to travel 83 miles.
Those of you that have followed Myrddin's blog know that Jim and Linda have been here before to visit the "Illinois Bunch", but it's a first for me. My first impression of the park is that it's an older park, there are quite a few "permanent" RVs here including park models and trailers with rooms added on and the sites are, for the most part, fairly small. There are however, lots of large trees to provide much needed shade when it gets hot, the park is very clean, the RVs and Park Models are very well maintained and all the interior roads are paved and in fairly good condition.
Being that I'm as large as I am, there aren't too may sites that will easily accommodate me, so my site is not real close to where the "Illinois Bunch" are. It's OK though, Jim can either ride his bike or walk over there, (like he did yesterday evening for "happy hour"), and if Linda wants to go see them at their RVs, there's always CLT. : )
When we arrived and as Jim was walking up to office he met Dave and Dee Dee heading back to their RV from the Clubhouse. He talked to them for just a minute and then when he went into the office, they came to the parking lot to see Linda and me. : )
After Jim finished the paperwork in the office a man in a golf cart led me to my site and helped Jim get me backed into site #300. It's a nice fairly level site with full hook-ups and 50 amp electric and will be very good for the 8 nights that we'll be here.
Dave was out for a walk so he stopped by and talked for awhile during the afternoon. He just had triple by-pass heart surgery this last fall, but he says he's doing fine now and feeling well.
After Dave left, Jim did a few more set-up things outside and then came in and took a little nap before heading over to Gordy's RV for "happy hour". ; )
All of the "Illinois Bunch" aren't here yet, but Jim had a nice visit with Gordy and Dave and Gordy's neighbor, (Dick), who is not one of the "Bunch". While at the happy hour, Jim found out that Dave, Dee Dee and Gordy were going to go to Bob Evans for dinner, so Jim called Linda and it was decided that they would go along.
Dinner and conversation were both very good and after eating Jim and Linda came back here and watched a little TV before going to bed.
Today, I think the Denny and Bev are supposed to arrive. Then, everyone will be here except Gordy's wife, Dorthy, and she won't be flying down here from Illinois until about the 9th of Feb.
Did you know that the name Thonotosassa comes from the Seminole-Creek words thlonto and sasse, meaning the place was a source of valuable flint?
I thought about y'all when we drove by Southern Aire a couple of weeks ago. We are still at Lazydays getting a few extras added. Maybe we can see ya before we leave this week. Have fun with the Illinois Bunch.

We're in Avon Park, just a few miles from you. If you're there awhile maybe we can meet up again, it would be great seeing you again.
