Shopping, Moving and Company Coming

DeBary, FL.

47 deg. clear, NW wind @ 7 mph.

Forecast = Mostly sunny. Highs around 73°F. Northwest wind 9 to 15 MPH, gusting to 21 MPH.

Tuesday ended up being a grocery shopping day. That is, after the rain and storms finally cleared the area. We didn't have any storms here in DeBary, but it did rain quite hard for awhile.

While it was raining, Jim and Linda were going through drawers, cabinets and other storage places inside of me to further try to decide what stuff they still need to take to the house.

This has been one of the hardest parts of moving and downsizing RVs. If they leave too much inside of me, and there's not enough storage in a smaller RV that they purchase, then what do they do with those items? On the other hand, they need to be sure that they have enough along to be able to live comfortably for the next 2 or 3 weeks, or however long it takes to find an RV.

Yesterday, they took a whole bunch of stuff over to the house and put it away. Jim also loaded up his bike and took it over there so he wouldn't have it in the back of CLT. Then, after they returned and were resting/napping, Laura called and wanted to know it they'd like to meet over a Steak N Shake around 5:30 for dinner?

Well, again, that was a "no brainer", so around 5:15 they headed over there and had a nice visit with Laura and Lindsey while enjoying a sandwich. : )

Oh, do you remember that around the 1st of February I mentioned that Denny and Bev, (part of the Illinois Bunch), were going to stop by for a few nights? Well, tomorrow they'll be arriving here at Highbanks and will be staying for 2 nights!! They'll be coming in their Winnebago Brave but as of today, there's no sites empty real near me, so I may not be able to see him.  : (

I'm sure Jim and Linda will have a good time visiting with Denny and Bev though and they've already planned a Pizza dinner for tomorrow night. : )

It should be a fun time!!! : )

More Moving And Re Arranging

DeBary, FL.

64 deg. clear, no wind.

Forecast = Mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Highs around 81°F. East wind to 10 MPH. Chance of precipitation near 45%.

Not much new happening around here. Each day, Jim and Linda have been taking more stuff over to the house. Some days, (like Saturday), they also did things like put up a different shower rod in the bathroom, do  some cleaning and, reorganizing some of the stuff that they've already taken over there.

One of the main things that they reorganized was the kitchen cabinets. Linda wasn't satisfied with where the pots and pans were and so they ended up moving them to a more convenient place, and then while they were at it, re-arranged many of the other cabinets.

Linda decided that she wanted to move her desk, file cabinet and chair over to the house, so Saturday, after working at the house, Jim and Linda stopped at a used furniture store, (a different one that they had stopped at when they first started looking at used furniture), and purchased a used, smaller desk, desk a couple of small chairs, plus couple floor lamps for the house.

Being that those items were going to be delivered around noon yesterday, (Yes on Sunday), Linda called Lindsey and he came over around 9:00 and helped Jim move the desk and stuff to the house. Then about 1:00, the furniture guy came and brought the desk and chairs they they had bought, inside of me.

Thanks again, Lindsey. : )

Before we leave here on the 7th of March, Linda's recliner will also be moved over to the house. That will be a big job because it just barely fits through my door. In fact, besides Lindsey, they may need additional help getting it out of me.

So, the move continues. Jim has still been researching floor plans of various Class C RVs and has found a few that he and Linda may like. They'll need to go and actually see them and spend some time inside of them to see if any of them will meet their needs though.

Oh, in case you're wondering, I still don't know what's going to happen to this blog when Jim and Linda trade me on a different RV. Neither Jim, Linda or CLT seem interested, but I haven't given up, I'll continue to try to find a solution.

Slow Process

DeBary, FL.

54 deg, cloudy, NE wind @ 5 mph.

Forecast = Partly cloudy with patchy fog. Highs around 77°F. East wind to 9 MPH.

It's a slow process, but it seems to be working well. Every day, Jim and Linda take anywhere from 2 to 5 boxes/totes full of stuff over to the house and put the stuff away that same day. It's taking a long time this way but they're not wearing themselves out either. Many of my cabinets, drawers and other storage areas are now completely empty now and soon I'll be carrying only the basic necessities that will be needed for the next couple weeks.

Other than moving stuff to the house, not much else has been happening around here. When they're not moving stuff, they're sorting out the things that they think they'll need here. Already, a few things have been moved to the house and had to be brought back. : )

Yesterday evening, both Jim and Linda were tired from moving so they went to Gram's Kitchen for dinner. Again, the food was good and so was the service.

I don't have a clue as to what's going on today. I know Jim would like to watch the race on TV this afternoon. That may work out because I think that both he and Linda could use a day off from moving.

It's Cold!!!!

DeBary, FL.

29 deg. clear, no wind.

Forecast = Mostly sunny with patchy frost. Highs around 64°F. East northeast wind 5 to 14 MPH.

I don't care what the temperature is where you're at. It may be -20 where you are at, but I'm down here in Florida and it's supposed to be WARM!!!

As forecasted, it never got out of the 50's yesterday, and by 7:00 or so, it was already down into the 30's!!!

Way too cold!!!!!

Linda finished the bedroom curtains yesterday while Jim fabricated some short rods for the door and the little window along side of the door. He also put more "stuff" away that they took over there.

Now, if I can get Jim to take some pictures of all of those curtains that they have put up in the house, I'll post them here.

I'm going to end this post for now. If this weather ever warms up, I'll post some more. : (

Did you know that in February of 1899 it got down to -2 in Tallahassee, FL?

Starting To Make The Bedroom Curtains

DeBary, FL.

36 deg. clear, N. wind @ 10 mph.

Forecast = Today: Sunny. Highs around 55°F. North northwest wind 8 to 16 MPH, gusting to 22 MPH.
Tonight: Clear. Lows around 36°F. North northeast wind 2 to 7 MPH.

Jim and Linda took CLT and headed over to the house yesterday morning. Being that every time that they go over there, they always want to take something that needs to be moved, they decided to take some extra clothes out of my closet.

When they got over there, Linda started making the bedroom curtains and Jim put the clothes in the closets. After that was done, Jim went out to the shed and proceeded to re-organize some of the items on the shelves and the bench. After finishing that project, he came inside and straightened up the Florida room and the kitchen.

Linda was making good progress on the curtains, so Jim sat down in his Barcalounger and fell asleep!! : )   By the time he woke up, Linda had finished the curtains for one window, so Jim helped her put them up.

It was about 3:00 by this time, so they headed back here.

The Weather and A Trip To Daytona Beach

DeBary, FL.

50 deg. clear, NW wind @ 5 mph.

Forecast =  Today: Partly cloudy with isolated showers. Highs around 66°F. West northwest wind 7 to 25 MPH, gusting to 36 MPH. Chance of precipitation near 20%.

Tonight: Mostly clear with isolated showers. Lows around 36°F. Wind chill around 26°F. West northwest wind 13 to 20 MPH, gusting to 28 MPH. Chance of precipitation near 20%.

You may notice that the weather forecast above includes the weather for tonight. The reason for that, is that today the temperatures down here in Florida are supposed to drop like a rock!!! Plus, the winds are going to  pick up a lot!!! If the forecasters on TV are correct, the temperature will get all the way down into the 20's tonight, but I really doubt it as long as the wind blows like they're forecasting.

In any case, it's going to feel really cold tonight. Something we really haven't had much of all winter.

Oh, and by the way, tomorrow's highs are only supposed to get up into the mid 50's, with 15 to 20 mph winds!!!!

Brrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

Friday, Jim and Linda took a few more boxes of "stuff" out of the inside of me to the house. While they were there, they hung a few more curtains in the bathrooms. They also stopped at the manager's office and filled out another paper. Nancy also gave them little credit card like things that they'll need to operate the gate at the entrance of the community. So far, they haven't needed the card because there was a problem with the gate, but now the gate is being repaired and if they go over there in the evening, they'll need the card to get in.

Yesterday, CLT took  Jim and Linda over to Daytona Beach where they went to some furniture stores to look for a new bed for the house. Since Linda was a girl, she has always wanted a "poster" bed and she's been thinking that this will probably be the last chance she'll ever have to own one. So,  ,   ,  ,  ,  they searched the stores over there and she finally found one that she likes.

I saw a picture of it in a brochure that they brought back with them, and it the post on the headboard and footboard are quite thin and very tall. In fact, I'm thinking that those posts will go almost all the way up to the ceiling in that double wide.

Of course there had to be a little "glitch" in all of this. You see, this bed has to be ordered and will not be available for delivery until the 15th of March!!! As you know, we'll be leaving here on the 7th, so this causes a problem. Well, Jim and Linda thought about it for awhile and finally decided that by the end of the month, one way or another, they'd get back here to accept the delivery, or possibly Laura or Lindsey could come and let the delivery men into the house.

So, the delivery date was set for the 29 of March, and one way or another, someone will be there.

Today, I think Linda wants to go over to the house and get started on making those bedroom curtains, so they'll probably spend quite a bit of time over there. While she's making the curtains, Jim will probably be unpacking some of the boxes of "stuff" that they've taken over there.

Did you know that In 1968, congress (Legislation # 15951) passed a bill that changed several federal holidays, in order for them to fall on a Monday, thus creating a 3-day weekend? The act took affect 3 years later in 1971.

Happy Valentines Day and Curtains

DeBary, FL.

62 deg. cloudy, no wind.

Forecast = Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Highs around 68°F. North northeast wind to 9 MPH. Chance of precipitation near 45%. Precipitation amounts up to one quarter inch possible.

Happy Valentines Day!!!!
Be sure to give that loved one in your life a big hug today!!!

Jim and Linda went over to the house yesterday morning and got the curtains up up in the living room. Of course, this wasn't just a simple matter of putting them up on the existing rods. Some of the rods were in bad shape and had to be replaced, and all of them had to be re positioned to accommodate the the new curtains, so it took quite awhile.

After the curtains were up, the furniture was put back where it belonged.

By this time, both Jim and Linda were worn out, so they relaxed for awhile in their new living room before coming back here. ; )

Linda says that she's very pleased with the way the house is looking inside and says that she knows she'll be very comfortable there. Jim also really likes the home and is looking forward to getting back to doing some small "woodworking" projects out in the shed during the winter months.

On the way back here, they stopped at Winn Dixie and picked up a few groceries. Then, for dinner, Linda made some tacos.

I don't have any idea what's happening today. I suppose Jim and Linda will take some more "stuff" over to the house and I know that Linda wants to get going on making those bedroom curtains.

Oh well, whatever they do, it probably won't effect me much. I'll just stay here and watch all the people coming and going. : )

Did you know that California produces 60 percent of American roses, but the vast number sold on Valentine's Day in the United States are imported, mostly from South America?

A Rough Day and Laura And Lindsey Come Through Again

DeBary, FL.

69 deg. mostly cloudy, SW wind @ 8 mph.

Forecast = Mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Highs around 82°F. South southwest wind 13 to 19 MPH, gusting to 28 MPH. Chance of precipitation near 50%. Precipitation amounts less than one tenth of an inch possible.

Yesterday was kind of a rough day for Jim. It started out with he and Linda going to Winn Dixie to rent a "Rug Doctor" machine and taking it over to the house. Not too long after they got there, Laura and Lindsey arrived to help.

Again, Laura and Lindsey saved the day!! They were great!! Lindsey helped Jim move the furniture and Laura did most of the rug cleaning!! Even with all that help, Jim's back was bothering him quite a bit by the time they were done cleaning the carpet. : (

By about 1:00 or so, all the carpets were cleaned and Laura and Lindsey headed back home. Jim and Linda stuck around for awhile while a couple floor fans and 3 ceiling fans dried the carpet. Once they were mostly dry, Jim and Linda took the rug machine back to Winn Dixie and then headed back here to rest.

After returning here, Jim sat and relaxed for awhile and then took a nap. He must have been really tired because he slept for almost 2 hours!!!! : O

After his nap, his back seemed to be feeling quite a bit better. : )

For dinner Linda made a delicious ham casserole and heated up some rolls that they had brought home from the restaurant. Then, they both watched TV, read and fooled around with the computers until bedtime.

Today, the plan is to head back to the house and work on putting up some of those curtains that Linda bought. Once that's done, most of the furniture can be moved back to where it belongs.

Both Jim and Linda again want Laura and Lindsey to know how much they appreciate all the help. Without them, all of this would have been much more difficult.

Thanks!!!!!

A Point to Ponder : Even when you have pains, you don't have to be one.

A Call, Wally World, The Texas Roadhouse and Carpets

DeBary, FL.

63 deg. clear, S. breeze @ 3 mph.

Forecast = Partly cloudy with areas of fog. Highs around 81°F. South southwest wind 5 to 11 MPH, gusting to 16 MPH.

Haven't posted the last few days because there really hasn't been much to post about, but yesterday, a few things happened.

First of all, yesterday morning, Jim called Roland. (He had called the afternoon before, but Jim and Linda had missed the call.) If you remember, Roland and Louise have recently bought a double wind down in Frosproof, (about a year or 2 ago). He hadn't been following this blog, and had just found out that Jim and Linda had bought the house here in Debary, and was wanting to hear all about it.

They talked for about 1/2 an hour and got pretty much caught up on what's been happening. : )

Unlike Saturday and Sunday when Jim and Linda just took more totes and boxes full of stuff to the house, yesterday, not only did they take some boxes and totes of stuff to the house but CLT also took them to Wally world where Linda bought some curtains for the living room and some material to make curtains for the bedroom.

As they were leaving Wally World, Laura called and asked Linda if she would like to see Ashley's new house. Ashley and one of her girl friends are renting a house up in DeLand had just moved into it. Anyway, Linda said that she'd like to, so Laura met them over at the house and picked Linda up.

Then, last night, Jim and Linda met Laura, Lindsey and Ashley over at the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant in Orange City for dinner.

You see, Jim had told Laura and Lindsey that for helping them with the house, he would buy them a dinner at a restaurant of their choice, so they chose this one. Everyone said that the food was excellent, the service was great and they would definitely go back there again sometime in the future.  : )

Today, is rug cleaning day at the house. Jim and Linda will rent one of those "Rug Doctor" machines and then  around 10:00 Laura is going to meet them over there and help clean all the carpets.

It would have been nice if they could have cleaned the carpets before all the furniture was in the house, but it just didn't work out that way, so now, they'll have to move the furniture around. : (

I've Been Thinking Again

DeBary, FL.

51 deg. clear, N. wind @ 8 mph.

Forecast = Mostly sunny. Highs around 73°F. North northeast wind to 11 MPH, gusting to 16 MPH.

You know, I've been thinking, why couldn't Jim or Linda take over this blog? They'd know exactly what was going on both when traveling and when staying in the house.

Yep, I think I may have figured this whole blog thing out!!!! : )

Not a lot to report on today. The last few days, Jim and Linda have been packing up a couple of boxes of stuff each day and taking it over to the house. The biggest challenge seems to be figuring out just what they think they'll need  for their trip up North this summer.

Also, because they have no idea how much storage space they'll have in a smaller RV, they really don't know how much they'll be able to take!!!

Today, They'll probably pack up a few more boxes and take them to the house. Most of my basement compartments are pretty empty and I have some empty cabinets inside of me already, so they're definitely making progress.

Oh, I don't think I mentioned it, but the other day, Jim paid for another month's site rent here at Highbanks. That means our departure date from here will be March 7th. At that time, (if Jim and Linda haven't already located a smaller RV), we'll leave here and start going to different RV dealerships to search for my replacement.

A Point to Ponder : Good judgment comes from bad experience and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Russell Stover and A Big Surprise

DeBary, FL.

59 deg. clear, no wind.

Forecast = Mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Highs around 81°F. South wind to 17 MPH, gusting to 24 MPH. Chance of precipitation near 25%.

It was about 9:40 when CLT pulled out of his parking spot next to me to take Jim and Linda to Wildwood. He said that they went to Sanford where they picked up RT 46 and took it over to the Mt. Dora/Eustis area where they turned onto 441, and followed it to RT. 44. 44 took them into Wildwood and to the Russell Stover outlet store, on the West side of town.

Linda found a whole bunch of Sugar Free Chocolates at the store and purchased quite a few different varieties. ; )

After they finished shopping they stopped at a Waffle House for lunch. Jim said that the food was good, but the place wasn't very clean. In fact Jim went into the restroom and said that the place was filthy.

By the time they finished eating it was about 12:45 so they headed over to Monte and Donna's. When they got there, they were in for quite a surprise!!!  It seems that last October, Donna had a heart attack and since then has had quadruple by-pass surgery!!!!

She's doing fine now, but she's had some rough times. Hopefully she'll regain her strength and will feel better soon.

Anyway, Jim and Linda stayed and visited with Monte and Donna for awhile and then headed back here to DeBary. This time, they took US 301 North out of Wildwood until they came to County Road 42. Turning East on 42 brought them almost all the way to DeLand where they picked up US 44 which brought them into DeLand and where they turned South on 15A. 15A took them to US 17/92 which brought them back here to DeBary.

Returning this way was longer, and took them a little longer, but the driving was much easier with much less traffic. Jim says that in the future, they'll probably go by this route.

After they returned, both Jim and Linda were talking about how nice it was to see Monte and Donna again. : )

A Point to Ponder : It is far more impressive when others discover your good qualities without your help.

Moving More Stuff and Planning A Trip To Wildwood

DeBary, FL.

58 deg. very light sprinkles, no wind.

Forecast = Partly cloudy with isolated showers. Highs around 75°F. East wind 1 to 8 MPH.

Jim and Linda took some more stuff over to the house yesterday afternoon. While they were there, a lady that lives down at the end of the block stopped by to welcome them to the neighborhood and to give them some park/area information. She also told them about some of the park activities and invited them to come to the gatherings/meals that will be occurring.

Like everyone else that Jim and Linda have met in the park, she was very friendly and seemed to sincerely want to welcome them to the community.

After getting the stuff that they had taken over there put away, Jim and Linda came back here and rested for awhile. Then, about 5:00 Jim cooked a hot dog and a brat out on the grill for dinner.

Oh, just before Jim went out fire up the grill, Linda called Monte and Donna who live over in Wildwood, FL to see if they would be home today. Linda wants to go over there to the Russell Stover Candies Store to buy a bunch of Sugar free candy and then she and Jim want to stop and see their long-time RVing friends who now live in a double wide.

Linda talked to Monte, and he said that they'd  be home and told Linda that they were looking forward to seeing her and Jim.

So, this morning, (probably about 9:30 or 10:00), CLT (Cute Little Truck), will take Jim and Linda over to Wildwood. It's about 60 miles and they'll have to go through some fairly large cities along the way, so it'll probably take them around an hour and a half. Once the they get there, they'll do their shopping, grab a bite to eat and then head to Monte and Donna's.

It should be a fun day. ; )

A Point to Ponder : Worrying works! 90 percent of the things I worry about never happen.

Moving Some Stuff

DeBary, FL.

45 deg. clear, no wind.

Forecast = Partly cloudy. Highs around 75°F. West wind to 6 MPH.

Not much happened over the weekend. Saturday Jim went to the grocery store and picked up a few things and the bought CLT that drink if 87 octane that he was wanting. Sunday was spent relaxing, doing little chores around here, and of course, watching the "Super Bowl" in the evening.

Yesterday, Jim started digging through my basement compartments to find more items that they won't be needing this summer. Then after bringing some totes and boxes inside of me, he and Linda packed up more things. Then they put everything in the back of CLT to take over to the house.

Once over at the house, Jim carried some of the boxes and totes inside for Linda and then while she was putting those things away inside, he went outside and worked on organizing the storage shed and putting the rest of the items he had taken out of my basement compartments out there.

Oh, they also weren't real happy with the arrangement of some of the living room furniture at the house so they shuffled it around a little. Nothing major, just moved an end table and then scooted the couch and Jim's recliner a little.

On the way back here into the park, they stopped at the office and picked up their mail. Then, once they got back here to my site, Linda did some paperwork and Jim took a little nap. : )

For dinner, they decided to head over to Steak 'n Shake for a sandwich.

Don't know exactly what's happening today, they may take a few more boxes/totes of stuff over to the house.

Did you know that on this date in 1953 - The Walt Disney’s film "Peter Pan" opened at the Roxy Theater in New York City?

Searching and More Photos

DeBary, FL.

39 deg. clear, no wind.

Forecast = Mostly sunny. Highs around 70°F. North northeast wind to 6 MPH.

Happy Groundhog Day!!!

If you remember, a couple days ago, I talked about what might happen to this blog when Jim and Linda trade me for a smaller RV. Well, it's been suggested that CLT (Cute Little Truck), might be persuaded to take over the blog.

Well, as of right now, he says that he's not interested at all!!! And, he says that after being drug around behind an RV and breathing all of the exhaust fumes that we RVs give off, he probably wouldn't be able to write a blog post, even if he wanted to!!

So,  ,  ,  ,  the search continues! : (

Here's some more photos of the furniture that Jim and Linda have bought for the house.

The first one is of the table and chairs that they bought for the sewing/craft room. The table and chairs are metal but the table has a nice hardwood top and the chairs have some comfy upholstery on the seats. Linda won't need all 4 chairs, but I'm sure she'll find a good use for them. : )

This photo is of one of the dressers for the bedroom. It's made of hardwood and is in very good condition, except for some minor damage on the lower left. (Jim says that he thinks he should be able to touch it up so it doesn't show so much.)

This is the matching dresser that goes with the above dresser. They're the same color but the lighting makes them look different.

This is the night stand that matches the dressers. The 2 lamps in the photos were also purchased at the same time.

And, this is another small cabinet that Linda really liked, so Jim purchased it for her. (Kind of unique) ; )

About the only furniture still left to buy is a bed and a TV. They'll be purchasing the bed sometime during the next month, but may not purchase a TV until they return this fall.

Not a whole lot else happening. Jim and Linda were only over at the house for a short time yesterday, and then in the evening, they went to a Perkins Restaurant for dinner.

Today, they need to get some groceries and pick up a few items at Walgreen's, but I don't know of anything else they're planning.

Oh, CLT says that he needs a drink of 87 octane really bad!!!!

Did you know that Punxsutawney Phil weighs about 20 pounds and is 22 inches long, while the average groundhog weighs 12-15 pounds and is 20 inches long?

A Little Business and Some Photos

DeBary, FL.

36 deg. clear, no wind.

Forecast = Mostly sunny with patchy frost. Highs around 66°F. North northwest wind to 13 MPH.

Jim called Nancy, (the community manager over at Highland Country Estates), yesterday morning to find out what would be the best time for he and Linda to come over and take care of some business. She told him that she wouldn't be in the office for some of the afternoon, so around 11:00 would be the best time.

So, about 10:45 they headed over there.

Then, they went to the house and removed all the masking tape from the areas that were painted. After removing the tape and moving some of the furniture back to the walls, Jim got out his camera and took some pictures.

The light was coming in the window, so it made kind of a glare, but I think you can see the furniture that they bought OK. This first photo is of the couch, end tables, lamps and ottoman that they bought. (Can you tell the walls are painted light blue? )

This is Jim's leather Barcalounger and the love seat that matches the couch

This is the chair that came with the couch and love seat. It matches the ottoman that's in front of the couch. This chair is currently in the small bedroom that Linda will use for a sewing/craft room.

This is the chest of drawers that they purchased to put the TV on and it will also give them more storage. This chest appears to be fairly old and is made completely of solid wood, (no particle board).

This photo is of the Secretary that Linda fell in love with the first time that they went into the store. In fact it was purchased before Jim and Linda took possession of the house. This item also appears to be quite old and is very well made.

I have photos of more of the furniture that they've purchased, but I'll save them for another day.

Jim and Linda were back here at Highbanks by about 1:00. After relaxing for a while, both of them took naps. ; )  The rest of the day was spent watching TV, relaxing and resting their muscles that were still sore from all the painting.

Oh, Jim got an e-mail from Denny and Bev!! (part of the Illinois bunch), They're going to be able to spend a couple nights here at Highbanks around the 1st of March!!! That means that they'll be able to come and see me and also see Jim and Linda's new, (to them), double wide!!

Did you know that An early American reference to Groundhog Day can be found in a diary entry, dated February 4, 1841, of Berks County, Pennsylvania, storekeeper James Morris?
